All credits to Dhoni for scoring a double, it is not easy on any pitch against any opposition. But that does not change the fact that he is not really facing a formidable opposition on a difficult wicket. Agreed. But there are other good pace bowlers Aussies possess, like Pattinson, Siddle and Starc. What about them? Pattinson picked all 3 yesterday. I know the pitch does not suit the pacers but quality bowlers are always tough to face.

They are yet unproven commodities in subcontinent conditions. Being a quality bowler in favourable conditions and doing the same on an unresponsive wicket are two different things. Did Pattinson get any purchase today? It's still a weak and an inexperienced attack in this kind of a pitch. Still credit to Dhoni for a great 200, but not sold on the fact that it was an exceptional knock.

He said in the conf. that he was late on the shot as took his eyes away from the ball.

The Aussies were put under pressure by Dhoni's knock simply because he was playing counter-attacking cricket. If you watch the first half an hour of his innings, you'll know what I am talking about. Clarke was clueless when he saw Dhoni playing his shots and Lyon was unsettled from the moment Dhoni came on. He was bowling well earlier in that spell and also got the wicket of Tendulkar.

GoldenSun Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 I must admit that Dhoni played Pattinson and Siddle very well. Siddle and Starc in particular looked hopeless against Dhoni. Does this double century mean that all is forgiven? NO. We have to wait till the end of the series and only then can we evaluate. In general, we need to stop having these knee jerk reactions. There is a probability that this maybe a once in a bluemoon innings regarding his test performances. I however have to join in the applause for Dhoni today and tip my hat off.He served India well today. Putting up 500 against Siddle, Pattinson, and Starc on any track is a good achievement.

As he plays pace and bounce really well he should have been a better test batsman. Today he did justice to his abilities. Well done. I just hope that this innings does not make people forget that he is still a below average test captain. Dhoni the batsman and Dhoni the test captain should be separately gauged.
