Umesh is not sure whether he would be able to bowl as fast as he did before the injury.

This is bit a of a nothing article really. He is back from injury and taking baby steps by bowling slowly. Thats what most normal people do. Once again the media make something out of nothing. Forget the title, i am talking about the sentence preceding it the actual comment in the article. I have played school cricket in the UK and thats what every coach told us. Once you get some sort of injury its better to start slowly before you gain full fitness.

Where has Umesh said he isn't sure of bowling fast after injury? Here's what he said There is no reference to the title of this thread. This just simply means he is not currently bowling at full pace but will slowly crank up his pace as part of rehabilitation. TOI-let paper and TOI-let poster. :hehe:
Exactly. All Umesh has said is that he is not sure of bowling at his old pace immediately. He will increase his run-up with time. I am a bit concerned that he may prepone his comeback due to the IPL and may not recover fully.

No bowler has bowled at full pace after stress fractures. Umesh ain't no different.

He did not have stress fracture this time rather stress reaction. He had stress fracture in 2009 and still bowled fast.

His first priority is to be fit for IPL.We will soon see players skipping national duties to be available for IPL.
it has happened many times already, just look at zak right now.

I almost skipped a beat. :(( Keeping the pace in control after an injury is a common process. The article did not state that he would 'never' be able to bowl as fast as he used to before the injury. Misleading title.

The difference between a 'reaction' and 'fracture' is a matter of degree. Both suggest a disruption of the bone metabolism. Fracture can be seen on most imaging studies (X-ray, MRI, CT scan), whereas a stress reaction only shows up as increased bone activity on a bone scan.
Stress reaction can lead to stress fracture with overwork and overload.
