Dhoni's negative thinking.

Well you can blame him for this attitude but he's just being a realist. Remember our epic collapse vs WI in Mumbai test? Where we almost handed WI a win if not for Ashwin surviving the last over. Anything can happen in cricket and series win is more important than revenge. Even during the last 4-5 overs RR crept upto 4-4.5 only not 6+ as people are making it out to be. Which was finished with ease as well.
mate ,the target was 240 odd in mumbai, this was mere 132, lol what collapse? you are trying to make us believe the situation wasnt easy i.e 4-4.5 per ovr but honestly mate even you would have swore a couple words when dhoni was batting like sh1t

Dhoni is a piss poor Test batsman. I believe most of us already knew that
Would love to have a few more piss poor test batsman who could play knock like he did in Chennai.

You say 132 was a low score yet you say chasing at 4-4.5 for last 10 overs wasn't easy? Make up your mind

oh feck' date='typo, wanted to type 'was not' rather than 'was' easy to chase 4-4.5 rpo[/quote'] MSD was the new man in. It was a 5th day pitch and if you watched it live Starc and Siddle were reversing it nicely. Even after many dot balls RR crept up to 4-4.5 max in the end which was finished off with ease. So whats the fuss? Dhoni said he didn't look to attack early because Dhawan was injured and lower order collapsed in the 1st innings.

When was the last time we were batting against time to win a test in the 4th innings? Can't quite remember..was it the tied test at Chepauk in '87? P.s. got the answer in the thread itself, that Mumbai test vs WI in 2011

1980s West Indies, 2000 Australia these are the two teams i have seen with immense self-confidence who would go for victory no matter what the consequence is. Current SA team launched a brilliant onslaught on Australia in the final test to force the issue. Despite a fantastic one day chasers, we are timid when it comes to 4th innings chase.

Didn't we beat England chasing 380 odd at chennai? Viru's onslaught helped.

As good as the onslaught was, don't you think giving a target of 630+ in the 4th innings was almost Dhoniesque?

There on the last day we had about 260 to make in 90 overs..I was referring to the kind of chase in Mohali..say needing 50-60 in the last hour (15 mandatory overs). Someone referred to the Mumbai test in 2011 vs WI. needed 243 off 64 overs. Needed 55 off the last 15 overs with 5 wickets left, 24 off last 6 overs, 6 off last 2..couldn't win in the end. http://www.espncricinfo.com/india-v-west-indies-2011/engine/match/535999.html?innings=4;page=2;view=commentary

Sometimes - that got them into trouble too like Eden Gardens 2001 vs India and WACA 2001 vs NZ. The Kiwis came within 10 runs to win the series against Australia in 2001 and defeat them in Brisbane. A shocking result whichever way you look at it - http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63953.html Flemming's hypothesis - Australia are vulnerable on last 2 days of the Test match. They think so far ahead of themselves that they think they can win anything.

Because of ashwin's running.

Yeah, he would be aggressive but unfortunately will keep on scoring ducks at opening. Gambhir is one shite of a captain material and with his current form he is *****est for even being called a international cricketer.
