LOL You yourself are stereotyping. None of them are Northeasterners. Meiyang is Chinese (There are some who migrated to India way back. You can find plenty in Kolkata). Danny is from Sikkim (which isn't northeast). Just because they are "chinki" doesn't mean they are Northeasterners. Non-Northeasterner people of mongoloid origin in India also include Tibetans (who came with the Dalai Lama) and Ladakhis. Tenzing-Nima-plays-Tashi-superbly.jpg This guy for example is a Tibetan. He acted in Kaminey. I actually ran into him while holidaying in Musoorie. He runs a Tibetan restaurant (not very good food though) which is located right next door to Ruskin Bond's house. Better examples to give would have been Sourabhee (winner of Indian Idol 3), Mary Kom (Olympic Bronze Winner). There are also some Assamese people in the "mainstream" but Assamese don't look that "chinki" as compared to other people of NE (Prolly due to racial mixing) and plenty of them don't even look "chinki" in the slightest and more "mainstream" Indian. Note: Sorry for using the chinki word. I'm not using it in a racist context as it is frequently used but just to put a point across. Easier than writing "possessing mongoloid features".

Never ever celebrated holy in kerala. Holi is not a holiday there. Even Diwali never used to be celebrated till recently.

Salil Chowdhury and SD Burman say Hello. Pound for pound two of the greatest doyens of Hindi, and Indian movie, music industry. SDB was from Tripura, Salil da from Assam. You only have to listen to SD Burman's song and realize his tone is more NE than Bengali. Very similar to Bhupen Hazarika, who is another of NEastern. Your point about visual character on screen holds true of course. But that will hold true for a long time. It is no different in US, for example, where casting a Hispanic or Black is relegated to certain roles.

When people generally mean NE they mostly refer to the mongoloid population. The non-mongoloids of NE (Assamese,Bengalis living in Tripura,Barak Valley etc) pass off as "mainstream Indian". So most people don't even register them as from NE. SD though fits that definition of what most people consider a Northeasterner as he was ethnic Tripuri.

Malerkotla didn't see partition violence coz of it's history so it has a Muslim population. But other than that most migrated. I'm not confusing religion with ethnicity, just saying that Muslim Punjabis are almost negligible in India. Yes, the Bollywood people are there like Sahir Ludhianvi, Rafi, Nargis etc but most migrated coz border was near and there was plenty of violence (unlike say in UP where most stayed back).
sure no issues with that...my initial and main point was that Punjabis are a cultural/regionalistic group that can comprise of either Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus,etc.

Comparing it to Canada of all places?!? :(( Bangalore does attract IT folks from all across the country and it was the original "silicon valley" of India. Due to the huge influx from people across the country (not a bad thing!) Kannada itself has been relegated to the sidelines, a la Marathi in Mumbai.

Kannadigas are the most hidden from mainstream in India. Nobody knows how the language sounds. A friend from Chennai couldn't recognize the language when it was spoken in "Aan - Men at work"' date=' starring Akshay kumar, Suneil Shetty directed by Madhur Bhandarkar Unless you have lived in Bangalore, one will never come across this langauage in mainstream culture.
