rkt.india Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 ^^ i am amazed that it quite lost on people here that prasad has turned some of indian bolwers into tundlers with his 'technical' inputs or the lack of it . His urge for bowlers to bowl leg cutters, off cutters, outswing has been a huge problem in Indian cricket and it is not just him. Talk Indian players and coaches, every time they will talk about variations and their importance. Yaar, first have mastery over you stock balls and basics of fast bowling. Changes and variations do not happen overnight. It takes a lot of work in the nets. Umesh Yadav was under the coaching of Subroto Bannerjee in Vidarbha and because he was out of Indian team after 2010 Zim tour, he could work on the things in the nets with Banarjee and that made him better than what he was when he first played for India in 2010. You cannot apply changes straight away in matches. He also made some improvement by working with TA Shekher before CLT20 in terms of his balance and accuracy which showed in his bowling in test against England which was much better than what he bowled against NZ.

I also read that he is a dominant character, requesting selectors to take him into confidence before deciding on pace bowler selections etc. This lead to his eventual ouster, high and mighty people don't see such indiscretions lightly, esp in a political place like BCCI with all its super power hungry people.

The Outsider Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 But he bowled his normal way in IPL and I could assess those changes in him from the first warmup game itself. He was suddenly changed and Prasad was a coach. What was he doing there? When I' date=' watching match on tv at home, can see what's wrong was happening with him, how Prasad could not get that whole tournament. What is coach is there for then? He should have talked to him at first instance.[/quote'] What was Prasad supposed to do in the middle of a tournament? You have just admitted such corrections can only be made away from international cricket with hours of practice in the nets and you expect Prasad to have rectified things in the middle of the WT20? And what did Ishant and the coaches do in the last 4 years which you were expecting Prasad to do in a week?

And what did Ishant and the coaches do in the last 4 years which you were expecting Prasad to do in a week? I am not asking him to do in the middle of the tournament. He could at least have intimate Ishant about those things so that he would not have continued to be going on that path which he adopted in that tournament and there is no reason to suggest that those changes happened without Prasad being involved because he was the coach and it cant just be an overnight thought of Ishant alone to make those changes. That was the time and till now, he could not even get that good seam position back that is how that has technique change affected his bowling while he has a very good seam position before that.

Prasad was sacked soon after the tournament, so how could he have corrected Ishant when he is not involved with the set up? It's impossible to imagine that Prasad was involved in the change because for 2 years prior to the WT20 Ishant was not bowling like that, in fact enjoyed the best phase of his career, and all of a sudden Prasad would be involved in making the change? That was the time and till now, he could not even get that good seam position back that is how that has technique change affected his bowling while he has a very good seam position before that. That's just lame. Frankly if 4 years, multiple coaches, and top notch facilities are not enough for Ishant to correct his flaw induced in the WT20, blaming Prasad is just ridiculous.

Vilander Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 ^Spot on. are you suggesting prasad become indian bowling coach now ? :cantstop: seriously dude you want that.

Ishant is a bit of a delinquent, he even contested calls from certain quarters ( chappell i guess) that he should hit the gym and develop upper body strength saying he does not need muscularity to bowl well at the height of his signing with KKR. Its clear that Ishant's mental faculties are not extra ordinary as is expected of an international athlete, but what ever natural abilities he had were spoiled by prasadhams 'technical' inputs.. unfortunately for prasadham that has been played out in front of the entire country. No ammout of claims from Prasad that he is the 'premier coach' in the nation ( with UP team performance in ranji) can wash that out. :icflove:

All I've seen is two ridiculous examples to deride Prasad in this thread - Munaf and Ishant. I showed that Munaf's attitude was pathetic before Prasad took over and has continued to be pathetic way after Prasad left. And for the other one you seem to be implying that Ishant is incorrigible, so what was Prasad expected to do in that situation? I've watched and followed Indian cricket for a long time and the time when Prasad was the coach is one of the best from a fast bowling performance point of view - right from the series in Ireland against South Africa, through the England test matches, the WT20 win, the Australian series, the CB series, the performance at home against Australia and England, to the tour to NZ. I am not naive enough to credit Prasad with all the success, but to claim that he was turning Indian bowlers into trundlers is a crazy notion and nothing more.

And i agree to disagree with you mate, for love of Indian cricket in me i for an insignificant one find it hard to stand this rank trundler coming in and behaving as though he is a god sent fast bowling coach. He simply has not displayed the skills either as a player or as a coach. I am sure he is trying to make a living which he is entitled to, but Indian cricket team is not a place where he can learn to be a good coach. Its just too important a job, if there is an iota of suspicion as is the case with Venkat prasad, they should not be tried for the position unless there is marked improvement or proof to the contrary, neither of which are found in Prasad's case so one can only wait.
Dumbbells Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Problem wid prasad is dat he thinks dat he was a successfull bowler bowler bowling 120 craps and he starts teaching kids to bowl slower like him. Someone gotta remind him dat he was a crap bowler n he shudnt ask people to bowl slower. Wen a bowler is young and wants to bowl fast, y on d earth u wud stop him?

Vilander Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Where is the evidence that he has done this? where is the evidence to the contrary, proof of absence is not equal to absence of proof. Elementary Watson. :--D
The Outsider Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Where is the evidence that he has done this? Evidence: Prasad was a trundler, so he was making other bowlers trundlers.

Trundler Prasad to stay away from Indian pace bowlers till then..

It was discussed on ICF as well, dig it up.

Trundler player, trundler favoring coach...very dangerous i would say.
