After a survey of top Indian cities, two awards - quality of life and quality of city systems - were awarded to Surat as the best urban city this year. The award was accepted by commissioner at Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) Manoj Das along with mayor Raju Desai and principal secretary I P Gautam accepted the awards. Das said, "Surat has been adjudged as the best city in quality of life and quality of city system. The parameters included mobility, water supply network, cleanliness, public amenities, pollution control, greenery, safety and easy processes of getting word done at the corporation." Pune in Maharastra stood second in the quality of life category where as Ahmedabad was placed third. In the category of quality of city systems, Ahmedabad was second, while Chennai was placed third. The award was given to winners by chairman emeritus, Infosys Ltd, Narayan Murthy. How can a city with no IPL team top the charts :hmmm: Though in terms of cleanliness Surat is one of the cleanest major Indian cities I have visited in recent times.

I've never been there so am perfectly willing to accept the claim, but expressed my surprise at the rapid transformation.

I remember the whole cleanliness campaign thing was in the news in late 90s.
ravishingravi Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 They have done great work in Surat. Connectivity and infrastructure ESP. In Ahmedabad is something lse though. I wouldn't live there though. Pretty dull place for my liking.
nikred Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Within next 4 years, Hyderabad is going to have a well connected elevated transit system. Work is underway at a decent pace. The route layout is impressive. Hopefully this will at least partially solve the current traffic problem.
