Dhoni is the second best ODI cricketer India has produced and among the greatest batsmen and finishers in ODIs. Under his captaincy, India reached No.1 in test rankings, won World T20, won 50 over World Cup. So the hype will be there. One of his amazing qualities is how he remains so calm in pressure situations and how he does well as a batsman and captain despite unrealistic expectations from a billion crazy fans and despite the severe negativity of Indian media who criticize every little move. The whole World Cup campaign and the innings in the final shows how mentally strong he is. 99 % people would have crumbled under the pressure of the final but he moved himself up the order and played an once in a lifetime innings. :hatsoff:

Dhoni is Gold. A regards to captaincy, India will go back to Ganguly days or even worse Tendulkar days when he quits. I dont have to talk about how much we have won ever since Dhoni has come into the team even without captaincy.....He could have easily hogged the limelight by grabbing the numb 3 position in ODI, yet chose to stay lower down the order and did a super job there. Very few captains can elevate their batting position while chasing a huge total, replacing a very in-form player. That talks about his confidence, ability...blah blah..... Cricket is not really an international sport, but had cricket got the spread of football or even golf, that one innings would have made hum superior than Jordan. In the cricketing world he is the Jordan of this century

He is initiating the comparisons based on the fact that they have delivered time and time again in clutch situations. I honestly wish Simon could have made this comparison between him and Kobe Bryant though. Kobe was arguably the greatest since Jordan in terms of having ice in his veins and delivering in do or die situations.

Why people here criticize Dhoni, I have no idea. Not everyone is good at everything. Even Sachin Tendulkar is a mediocre T20 player. Dhoni is a mediocre Test Player. Jordan is a great basketball player. Maybe, he wouldn't be so good in netball. SO what. Atleast Dhoni is great in ODIs ... Compare him to the greats just on that basis. Why is this partiality. Is Sachin better than Anand, just because he plays a more popular game?? No, they are good at what they do. Dhoni is good at what he does in ODIs, Sachin in Tests and ODIs, Jordan in NBA and Anand at Chess. If someone compares Dhoni to Jordan, why are people mocking it citing his test records. Will it be Ok if I say VVS was a shyte player because he has a poor T20 record??? I guess we have a habit of belittling our stars just like the Mumbai crowd doing it to Kohli. Respect players for what they do irrespective of what game or what format they do it in.

[/quote'] When Dhoni retires, and when your top order fails, then you'll realize what a player he was in finishing. You wont see India come out of difficult situations in LOI's once Dhoni retires. Dhoni was not even Indias best player in either the t20 cup or world cup. Dhoni is good but not that great. Yuvraj, gambhir were both more valuable than dhoni in the t20 and ODI world cup wins. suresh raina tendulkar zaheer khan were more valuable than Dhoni in the ODI world cup. And I think even rohit sharma played better than dhoni in the t20 world cup win. Dhoni needs to step it up in big tournaments if he wants to go down as a great player and not rely so much on his teamates. I hope he does it in the champions trophy.
