"I was not nervous when Dravid fell but was more determined to carry on with my plans. We had a strong batting line-up for this match so the confidence was there," Samson said. The youngster from Kerala, who is a A B de Villiers fan, smashed 63 off 41 balls to lay the foundation for Rajasthan's four-wicket win in a thrilling finish. He bagged the Man-of-the-Match award for his fine effort. Samson said he had been told beforehand that he would be playing up in the batting order. "Yes I was told that I would be playing up in the order with a certain role. I had planned accordingly and could execute them because it was my day," he said after becoming the youngest player to score a half-century in T20-League. Asked about the fancy shots he's played, especially over the extra-cover region, Samson said, "I am used to playing such shots. I had to play them in accordance with the need of the hour and the field placement. "I normally play a lot of shots in that region and more so the area was vacant, so I tried to hit the ball there." Asked if he would like to be included in the team purely as a batsman, he said, "No I would like to be a wicketkeeper-batsman but it also depends upon the team management - what they want from me." Clarifying the confusion over his name, he said, "I had changed my name to Sanju Viswanath (from Samson) but there is nothing like superstition behind it." He denied that being the youngest player in the team he was treated like a child. "No there is no childlike treatment with me. I feel lucky to be with so many experienced players. I try to learn as much as I can from their experience," he said. With this win, Rajasthan stay 3rd in the table and Bangalore stay 2nd, with both teams on 12 points. Better execution of plans and adapting to wickets are the two key elements Bangalore need to focus on if they are to start winning matches away from home in the ongoing T20-League, feels pacer Ravi Rampaul. "We need to execute our plans and will have to adapt to the wickets and play accordingly," Rampaul said today after his side suffered another defeat away from its citadel, this time at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here to Rajasthan. Bangalore lost by four wickets in the last over. "It was a close match and perhaps we should have got a few more runs. That could have made the difference. The bowlers could have got some more runs to bowl. "We could not executive our plans as well as we had planned. But still there are a few positives to be drawn from this match," a dejected Rampaul, who grabbed two for 28, said. Praising Man of the Match Sanju Samson, Rampaul said he had not seen the 18-year-old in action earlier. "I had never seen him play but he came and batted well. He gave the momentum to Royals' innings." Coming back to the side's lack of ability to win away games, Rampaul said, "The matches out of our den have been close enough but we could not win. A member of the under-19 junior Asia Cup squad, Samson was first signed by KKR last season but never got a game. Backed by Rahul Dravid, the teenager is making his presence felt for Rajasthan Royals this season The latest star on the cricket horizon is Kerala's teenage sensation Sanju Samson and his middle name - Viswanath - is not known to many. For the 18-year-old Sanju, after his dream debut for Rajasthan Royals last week in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the name Viswanath has however started to gain significance. On Monday, Samson scored a 41-ball 63 and won the Man of the Match award as Rajasthan Royals defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by four wickets in Jaipur. At 18 years, 169 days, Samson is the youngest to score an IPL fifty! "Oh, the name Viswanath has nothing to do with our country's most gifted cricketer G.R. Viswanath. Since my father's name was P. Viswanath, I got that name and it followed to my son. Now with cricket the passion of both my sons, which father would not like his kids to emulate the legend," said his proud father Samson Viswanath, a former Delhi Police constable. Viswanath has two sons. The elder one, Saly Samson, is in his second year of college and plays for the state Under-25 cricket team while the younger one has just found instant stardom after he kept wickets for Rajasthan Royals, taking three catches and making the winning hit in his unbeaten 27-run-knock against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday. Sanju is also a star on Facebook now. His timeline has a number of pictures of him in cricket gear and those of his friends - and postings by well-wishers complimenting him on his IPL showing. Viswanath said even though he played for Delhi in the 1994 national football championship (Santosh Trophy), cricket was the first love for both his sons. "It was only after his Sunday performance that our neighbours came to know that he is the boy next door," said Vishwanath, who now is a football coach. He took voluntary retirement from Delhi Police in 2009 and the entire family returned to their hometown in Thiruvananthapuram. Vishwanath hails from a fishing hamlet on the city's outskirts, but the family moved to a rented home in the city to facilitate the two youngsters' cricketing. "Since both my children are always travelling, we decided to move to the city so that their travelling is made comfortable," added the father. Sanju, Viswanath says, got a huge morale booster after Indian speedster and statemate S. Sreesanth became his friend and advisor. Obviously, Sreesanth had a hand in Rajasthan Royals signing Sanju this season. Sanju was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders last season, but didn't get a game. His next big break came when he was selected in India's Under-19 side for the Asia Cup. His poor run in Malaysia, scoring 14 runs in three games, saw him lose his place in the Under-19 World Cup squad for Australia. Missing the World Cup only made him more determined to succeed and he went on to score 377 runs in 10 innings - with two centuries - in various domestic tournaments and then made 222 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. R.K.V. Gopakumar, chairman of the selectors of Kerala's Ranji Trophy team, said they picked Sanju to play for Kerala when he was a few days short of 17 in 2011. "He is such an unassuming person and appears quite mature for his age and, mind you, now he is awaiting his Class 12 results. Since making his debut in 2011, we have seen him returning from first class cricket matches to write his examinations. We are all happy that our state has produced another hugely talented cricketer and wish he goes the full distance," said Gopakumar. I don't think Yagnik was dropped for performance. Sreesanth also sat out a few guys for Rahul Shukla or someone else.

Sreesanth was thrashed by PWI and was dropped.

Yagnik did hit out in few games but was poor in the last few and rarely crossed 30 whenever he had a good start. Completely agree. RR this season have been blessed in having 3 good wicketkeepers.
saneindian Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Terrific prospect. Looks like a proper keeper-batsman. He will now have the pressure of being known, so remains to be seen how he bats from now on. On a side note, a couple of more good knocks will give him the India u-19 captaincy.

Every team has a good scouting network as there is a lot of talent in India. But it's only few teams who actually give chances to these players. RR being the best example. And MI perhaps being the worst example as seen with their horrible huge and expensive squad.
