wanted_desi Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 got the poorest SR out of all batsmen those have scored over 200 runs :haha: Robin Uthappa: 214 runs at SR: 110 (No Wonder Pune is losing :giggle:) AJ Rahane: 229 runs at SR: 101 :hysterical:
Texan Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 AJ Rahane: 229 runs at SR: 101 :hysterical: and that is why RR is in 3rd place in the points table.... before posting this, just go and see how many of Rahane's innings were match-winning. And by the way, he is AM Rahane.

rkt.india Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Rahane's scores 28(24) 36 (34) 30 (27) 34 (42) played a sheet anchor here on a seaming track good innings but slow. 68(54) his best innings in IPL yet. 14(13) 16(15) 1(9) 2(7) He has quite a few scores of of over 30s but SR wise slow.
Texan Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Rahane's scores 34 (42) played a sheet anchor here on a seaming track good innings but slow. ohh really?? If it weren't for Rahane, RR would have lost that match. So, out of 9 matches, 2 of his innings are match-winning. And some people still want to give him flak :hmmm: Why? Because he's a team man and bats according to the situation rather than go for glory? :confusedman:

He cannot go for glory because he does not have the power and big shots so this is the only way he can play. Look how he went for glory against Aus in test.

So, you are saying that only Samson and Watson won that match for RR and Rahane just wasted time there? Your argument falls flat on your face because Rahane stayed at the crease till the end and saw his team through. That on a pitch on which the opposition was bowled out for 124. You would have been more supportive if he had tried hitting out and getting out eventually leading to his team's defeat. All they needed was less than a run-a-ball. Bottom line is that he won 2 out of the 9 matches he's played in. That definitely does not make him the worst player in this IPL. Players like Tendulkar, Gilchrist and Sangakkara have done much worse.
BeautifulGame Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Usually in IPL if u have played 3-4 match winning knocks u had a pretty good season.By this standard Rahane has had more than a decent season so far. Had played poor shots to get out last two matches so need to pick up his game
kubrickian Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Rahane is a 120 Strike rate player at best. He doesnt have the power to hit fours or sixes at will. He has managed to score at a fast rate in a few innings only because he opens the innings. He will struggle to clear the boundary if he bats later on in the innings. Uthappa is a much better hitter who is going through poor form and that reflects in his team's performance. But given RR have hitters like Watson, Hodge, Binny down the order, Rahane has done not too badly at the top but has failed in a few innings of late. He has to pull up his socks if RR has to make it to top 4.
yoda Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Even in T20 you need a few players to push score at just above a run a ball as long as your team has some good hitters down the order. Good example was Badri's innings against PWI at barely over 100 SR, yet his partnership with Raina gave CSK a good platform for Dhoni to go berserk in the final 5 overs.

Neither did I say he is the worst player of this IPL. It is OP who is saying this. His SR is certainly one of the worst for T20s. My point is that was a seaming track so we can understand that, but even on flat tracks, his SR is not up to the mark. He helped them won 2 out of 9 matches. Similarly Rahul Shukla had one real bad match out of 3, in which there were other bowlers who bowled worse than him, and helped them won previous 2 matches, in one he took wicket of Mahela and bowled a brilliant 19th over and in one, he started KKR collapse by bowling quick stuff and people are still writing him off and saying he is overhyped. He is not even hyped, let alone overhyped. This is not the way to handle young pacers. What justice!
someone Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Rahane has been having a poor IPL and he himself have admitted that. Even with some of his high scores this year, it was a weak performance in that context and only had to thank his team mates who made that difference. Just do not go into stats, if you have watched RR matches, you will see that Rahane has been poor.

His role is to lay down anchor and let the big hitters like Watson go for it. Its called playing for the team. Last season he had a strike rate of 130 odd. Dravid has similar stats to Rahane this season including the strike rate. I have watched every RR game and apart from the past 2-3 matches recently he has played the role given to him with ease. I would say the combo of Rahane and Watson is probably the best in the IPL currently.

The question is not about the type of role he plays. The question is how he could have nearly made his team lose the match, but was eventually bailed out by his team mates. My above point does not make Rahane a bad player but rather that Rahane is going through a poor form. And when the player himself has admitted that, I am not sure at all why I need to debate this with you at all!!

While i am not saying i dont believe you, It would be nice to read the actual words he said. So some links might be fine. The secret of Rajasthan's success has been that everybody knows their role. Rahane, Dravid anchor Watson, Binny, Yagnik, Samon - hit out and go for the shots Hodge- finisher. Clear roles which from what i can see everybody is mostly fulfilling as per the time. When Rahane opened with Dravid last season he went for his shots. When Rahane opens with Watson he ensures that Watson has most of the strike by rotating singles. You give Rahane the role of going for his shots, he will have an increased strike rate. You ask him to lay the platform he will do just that.

kubrickian Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Instead of Rahane, RR could promote Sanju Samson up the order to see if he could give another quick start which Watson, Hodge could capitalize on. Rahane and Dravid are too slow as openers for a T20 team.

Rahane and Dravid are too slow as openers for a T20 team.[/quote'] Samon opening on the seaming tracks RR have been playing on is not a good idea. Its not as if RR keep playing on flat beds. Its not easy facing the new ball there. He has never opened and usually comes in at number 5 or 6 from what i can see on his t20 profile. RR have Watson at the top doing the damage. With Hodge and shah also in the starting 11 they dont need more hitters. The bottomline is RR have been winning and from the looks of it the RR management appear happy with the roles people have in the team. Especially Dravid.
G_B_ Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Faulkener is also a finisher. more than finisher i think he is somebody who can out bat to ball. In that sense even Cooper can bat.
G_B_ Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Also like to point out about Rahane In international T20 he has an average of 25 with the bat and a strike rate of 122 In international T20 Gambhir has an average of 27 with the bat and a strike rate of 119. I would say those are quite similar numbers. So long as Rahane can maintain an average of about 25 and have a strike rate hovering around 120 I think he is a good bet for team india. Mooli for India in similar number of matches to Rahane averages 17 with the bat at a strike rate of 98 Dhavan for India only 1 match but he looks poor against the WI Dont know with Dhavan mach 2. He averages 5. Uttappa for India 11 matches average of 19 and a strike rate of 111. the way i see it Dhavan, Rahane and Gambhir are India's best bet in the ODIs and T20s.
