FischerTal Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Mumbai: The BCCI is set to field a second-string team for India's tour of Zimbabwe in July-August, according to a leading Indian daily. India are scheduled to play five ODIs from July 24 to August 3. According to sources in the BCCI, India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma and others are likely to be rested. "Some of the top players will not be featuring in the tour of Zimbabwe as we feel they need rest because a long season awaits them. In 2010, we sent a second-string side and the same will happen this time also," a BCCI source said. BCCI were in talks to play two Tests and three ODI's with Zimbabwe so that Sachin Tendulkar could complete 200 Test matches. However, the logistics didn't work out and both boards agreed to have five ODI's instead. "We wanted to have two Test matches for Tendulkar to complete 200 Test matches but it didn't work out," a source added. saneindian Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I hope Kohli isn't rested. At 24, he should be playing every match. Sachin, ganguly, Dravid etc did not miss matches vs BD/ Kenya in the late 90s despite us playing 35-40 ODIs in those years. No reason why Kohli should miss out either.

I remember Tendulkar/Ganguly being rested for a 2 matches each in the Bangladesh-India-Kenya tri-series in 1998. We lost one game to Kenya in which Ganguly was rested. I agree on Kohli though.

G_B_ Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma and others are likely to be rested. Personally speaking i do hope they dont pick Bhuvi Kohli Dhawan Vijay Pujara Rahane etc and instead send them to the A tour of SA. Vijay especially might be better suited sticking to tests and sealing his position there. http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=290625 As far as importance goes, A tour of SA >>>>>> ODI in Zim Pick guys like Raina who have never going to hack it in the tests. Along with other people like Rayadu Mohit Sharma etc. I know a lot of people will say this Zim team beat us last time. But they have become way more weaker since we lost to them.
carnish Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Bad policy ... We have enough rest after that zimbabwe tour ... The tour finishes on 3rd august and as far as I think, champions league won't start till september. Plus even kohli won't be participating in the CLT20.
G_B_ Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Rohit Chand DK Tiwary Raina Rayadu Sir Jadeja Mishra Mohit Sharma Parvinder Awana Sandeep Sharma (always liked the look of him even for kings 11)

rkt.india Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Pick guys like Raina who have never going to hack it in the tests. Along with other people like Rayadu Mohit Sharma etc. I know a lot of people will say this Zim team beat us last time. But they have become way more weaker since we lost to them. They are much better now than in 2010. They have much better bowlers now.
G_B_ Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 They are much better now than in 2010. They have much better bowlers now. But their batting is highly dependent on Brendon Taylor. I am confident the likes of DK Tiwary etc can negotiate their bowlers.
MCcricket Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I would love to see Suyal, P Singh, S Kaul, Pandey, R Shukla, Rayudu, Chand, Samson, Viru, Gauti, Kartik, Rahane included.
jalebi_bhai Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 15 member-Squad: S. Raina (Capt.), D. Karthik (VC), A. Rayudu, A. Mishra, M. Tiwary, S. Ahmed, R. Uthappa, V. Kumar, G. Gambhir, I. Pathan, P. Kumar, S. Nadeem, M. Sharma, U. Chand, P. Chawla (:giggle:).....
rkt.india Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 But their batting is highly dependent on Brendon Taylor. I am confident the likes of DK Tiwary etc can negotiate their bowlers. That's the same batting they had then too. Sibanda, Hamilton, Taylor etc.

Any news on when the A tour to SA is? August apparently but no dates had been finalised from what I last read Im not sure Virat needs to go with A team, though no harm I guess, as he is a senior batsman. Dhawan, Vijay, Rahane and Pujara yes
