The 2011 WC team fluked itself to the final. they couldn't even beat an English team on vacation still celebrating winning the Ashes. They lost to the saffas also. England is the worst ODI team ever to have played among top teams. That is undeniable truth. They have fluked their way to final due to weather and umpire help. :winky:

Tendulkar_Bhai Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I dont agree , that lineup of Sehwag, SRT, GG, UV, Vk, ms etc was one of the greatest ODI lineups of all time and we had bowlers good for those conditions eg. Munaf/UV playing crucial roles Another big point is that the quality of opposition now v 2011 is much lower, Pak are worse batting side, sa/aus/sl are useless, so this side hasnt properly been tested But the team has potential in ODI's, wer doing well on slow swinging surfaces which wasnt expected

MCcricket Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 In terms of talent alone I do not agree, but if you look at the aggressive play and positive approach, great fielding, running between wickets, playing well against good bowling and shorter length, seaming conditions, this team is a more attractive and better package, also everything seems to have clicked. There are a few weak links, bowling, Ishant and Umesh not quite there yet, selectors and coach need to look at other options, Dhawan alone score tons of runs , Rohit, Kartik need to step up, Sehwag, Pathan also need to play when they are doing good, Aaron, Suyal,Pankaj Singh should be looked at, also Sehwag, Gambhir, Rayudu, Pujara, Rahane should be in the frame along with R Sharma.

Add to that the fearless attitude, much improved fielding and the variety in bowling -( we have a genuine quick, a master if movement, a bouncy pacer , a mystery spinner and a left arm orthodox ). The 2011 ODI team was very good and had bigger names but this team looks more gutsy and with more variety.
fineleg Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Just because Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh have lost their potency (as compared to when in-form) and Tendulkar (retired) - we cannot say this current lineup is the best. Sehwag + Gambhir+ Tendulkar + Yuvi when on song are terrific and Yuvraj Singh is arguably the best ODI batsman India has ever produced. They are not in form. So today VS+GG+YS are poor (and srt retired). That is TODAY. SRT, GG, VS, YS is an awesome top 4 otherwise.
jalebi_bhai Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Think we've peaked at a time in this tournament when many other teams have been in a bit of limbo.......either batting wise or bowling wise or both..........In England, we'll be playing against a team that is the most settled out of all our opponents.....they will provide us with our sternest test in this tournament....

He is probably the most clutch ODI batsman we have ever produced......but SRT, Dhoni, Ganguly, Dravid and dare I say....even Gambhir have been more consistent over their careers.......a pure-bred match winner if there ever was one.....but not the best ODI batsman India has produced......

Great fielding, fearless batting, awesome bowling. India went in with zero hopes .
