Leopards are extremely intelligent stalkers and predators. I had heard the story of a man eating leopard once who had learned to knock on doors. He would stealthily enter a village after dark, knock on a door, wait for someone to open the door and noiselessly pick up his prey and run back to the jungle. It took a couple of kills before people learned not to open the door after dark.

^ Generally, hyenas are known for such silent attacks particularly hunting in the night or early morning hours. IIRC they are called "coward carnivores" or something like that.

All predators are silent. They won't shout like our masala movie heros' date=' gundas or villans before killing someone.[/quote'] By silent, I meant attacking the feet first rather than going for the jugular. I am not too sure but this is what I read about hyenas on a Safari visit.

You went for Safari!!!! :woot: I always wanted to go to ngorongoro crater!! Those african spotted hyenas are pack hunters, so they will make different sounds for communication. Pack hunters while hunting a much bigger animal like a wildebeest or a zebra, generally go for the feet, to prevent it from running away, and then they will eat it. The reason is running fast is the only defence for prey in africa, as there is no where to hide. They are different from our indian hyenas, which are known to hunt individually and in packs, will go for the jugular. Indian jungle predators mostly prefer silent hunting. Except dholes.
