Indian fast bowlers are below par compared to them. English bowlers were below par too if you watched that series. They did not bowl with any real pace and tracks were mostly flat.

Only way you can topple them is through skills. Even Robin peterson won't be scared of our bowling. True. This is also a reason why they will never "dominate" teams as well.

In SA, mostly you need bowlers who make the batsmen play at decent pace and can move the ball and bowl good length, not as full as you will bowl in England. Pitch will do the rest for them. Bowlers like Ishant, Pankaj Singh, etc. are not going to work there. They bowl too much back of a length.
MCcricket Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 The thing with B Kumar is that he is not just a one trick pony, he hits the bat harder then the speed suggests, he is accurate, even bowls aggressively in tests and is more complete bowler, he can swing and seam in most conditions. Ishant is a waste of time, he has no thought process or control and even lost his pace, Umesh has pace and seems to have learnt to seam the ball well and also with his style of bowling gets swing, he needs to stop bowling the short hit me lengths, either short to the neck or fuller side of good length the ideal place to bowl . I would love to see Shami or Pankaj in the squad and Shami as the third bowler or for variety Suyal, left hander with pace, Kaul also one to invest in, stay away from VK, PK, MITHUN .

vayuu1 Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 My attack would be bk,uy and kaul all three bowls fuller length and irfan in place of ashwin ,u don't need many spinners in south Africa ,I think jaddu can tighten the runs as wel as pick wickets,unless it's a subcontinental type pitch ,irfan if fit can be really handy,he is also a decent bat,especially against fast bowling.

Smith was bonafide Zaheer bunny. And he is a near-ATG opener who cushions a superb middle order. If Zak is fit, he should go. he is 34, not 38. He still has a couple of years left in him and he is still by far the best old ball bowler (pace that is) India has to offer. If our plan is to discard a fit (if) Zaheer, who is known to've bunnified Smith and expect BK to walk in and make a bunny out of a 7000+ run getting Saffie opening great, that is too much on the shoulder of a kid with not even 10 test wickets to his name.

Zaheer is clearly ahead of Ishant in the pecking order when fit and he *has* to play if fit for the following reasons: A) Only pacer to have had some modicum of success in SA from our current crop. B) Smith is his known bunny C) Left armer's variation will complete this attack. We have a right arm hit-the-deck fast guy, we have a right arm medium-pace swing guy. A left arm swing guy is going to be perfect. D) Easily the best old ball bowler in India. We need him as between overs 40-80, if we need a pace option, Zaheer is going to be the best pace bowler India has to offer. Ashwin gets the spinner spot by default. If India management trusts Jadeja's batting, he provides a tantalizing 5th bowling option who is also a left arm spinner- a class of spinners who have traditionally caused Saffers problems. Best attack India can field will be Bhuvi-Umesh-Zak-Ashwin-Jadeja. But jadeja option comes at weakening the batting, which i dont think might be the way to go necessarily.

I saw him in the Ranji matches last year, and at times he was struggling to hit even 134 kph. Its better to move on to Sid Kaul or Mohit Sharma

As i said, the guy is 34, he is at the cusp of being the 2nd Indian pacer ever to take 300 wickets. He can't be written off yet IMO.

If the coach & physios cannot give Zaheer a honest test-type workout, that is, even if he is not getting any FC action, then they should quit their job. 'Wasn't fit in 2012, so wont be fit in dec. 2013 is illogical and sounding more like you have an axe to grind more than anything'. The Ranji starts before the RSA tour- Zaheer may have 1-2 FC games to prove himself and that should be enough.
