By that logic, given the form Dhawan is in, you might also want him to bat in middle order so that he doesn't face the new ball.

Our ODI unit has anyway gone through an overhaul of sorts with Dhoni being senior-most at 31. Retirement of Sachin and soon we will see Dhoni being senior-most in Tests too.

Just to clarify that me post meant that even a washed up Sehwag(I don't think he is even washed up if played in the middle order) is better than the replacements on offer.

I understood that you didn't mean it. But I fail to see why you wold give an out of form Sehwag a chance in the pace where he hasn't batted for ages ahead of young guys like Rohit and Rahane who haven't even batted there and moreover, guys who we need to groom for the future.

You won't find a single opener in the 130 year old history of cricket with the kind of destructive record he has - he is to opening what Gilchrist is to keeping. He was never an opener to begin with and now that his reflexes might have slowed down for a new ball and fresh pitch, he certainly deserves a 4-5 test run in the middle order, where he initially started off his career.

Get fitter, play in the middle order for Delhi / North Zone and score runs, will get picked. However going by past history, he's hardly done anything in domestic cricket when he's been struggling for form and looks like history will repeat itself. Would be more than happy to eat my words though.

The problem is that he does not give a feck about domestic cricket. There were similar threads and posts before the '07-'08 series to Australia and when Sehwag was finally selected after the initial list there was an uproar that he can't even score against Himachal Pradesh, what will he do in Australia. Well we all saw what he did there. I am not saying your argument is wrong in general, just that it's not applicable to Sehwag in particular.

The key difference is in 2007-08 Sehwag was 29-30, now he's 35 with slower reflexes, perhaps twice the fat he had back then and dare I say very limited motivation. Unless he scores a lot of runs, difficult to see a comeback for him.

If Sehwag clicks in the middle order (if plays in the middle order I would play him at no 5 and Kohli at no 6) he will playing mostly when ball is old and bowlers are little bit tired he can take away the game from any team. The question is can he become fit and doesn't become a liability on the field and he is far better slip catcher than any of new comers.
