Another Bihar shocker: 15 kids fall ill in Madhubani after midday meal

Just one day after 21 children died because they ate contaminated food in the Chhapra region of Bihar, reports are coming in that another 15 children have fallen ill after eating their midday meal in Madhubani district. Reuters CNN-IBN reported that a lizard had been found inside the container used to cook the vegetables served to the children. The 15 children have been admitted to a hospital and two of them are in critical condition, the channel added. Meanwhile, the principal of the Chhapra school which witnessed the deaths of 22 children, has been suspended and an FIR has been filed against her. There are also investigations on to determine what caused the deaths, with locals insisting that the children were poisoned. Over 60 children are still ill after eating the meal and are receiving treatment in Patna. Of this, ten are in critical condition.

Nothing to gain. It just shows the carelessness of serving poisoned food without proper inspection to save money and possibly fill their pockets by serving lower quality food than what the government is funding for.

Right now one such incident became a big story so now other incidents in other schools/states are also getting a lot of attention.

There were reports of food poisoning earlier too.

Its hard to say if it was done on purpose even in this case. It could very well be a sheer negligence, like using the cooking pot for some pesticides and then just rinsing them to cook food for these poor kids. I still feel that whoever it is didnt do it on purpose. There are tons of incidences where they found worms, insects, flies, lizzards in the food before. But they just remove it from the food and feed rest of it to these kids as a normal course. That is why this whole mid-day meal scheme itself to me totally needs to be revisited. I would spend 10% more on this scheme but make it right. I doubt if it would ever be right considering the mentality of those who are involved as they treat pesticide and food as the same thing.
