First memories of cricket

For me it was Ravi Shashtri's picture with Audi as MoS award. IIRC, this was the exact picture I saw in newspaper -

Prancing down the pitch like a queen only to fold at the last moment and block it studiously back to the bowler. This habit of his became a standard joke on playgrounds all over with eager mimics executing a perfect replica of it. I remember seeing the lap of honour in and on the Audi. Audi must have been hoping that the winner was from a country they actually had a presence in. :hehe: maybe Audi should sign up Shastri for a TV Commercial and make use of that memory now. Most people who remember it are anyway old enough to be in the market for an Audi.

But the real trigger for a lifetime of cricket following came during the 96 world cup. One of my indelible memories was the unbelievable catch NZ’s Shane Thompson took in the 96 world cup. c4xx2eGLN6g

My major memories are mostly from 96 world cup.Sachin's wide stumping vs Aus and Jayasurya and Kaluwethrane scoring 50 odd in just 3 overs.

Ditto Ram. I think that is the series I remember the most watching as ayoung person. By the time 1996 world cup came, I got fully attached to Cricket.

One thing I do remember from my earliest days of watching cricket was how strikingly clear and refreshing, any cricket broadcast from Australian games looked, compared to our home games. At the best of times, our smog filled cities make for dreary viewing and the cameras back then were not the best in terms of picture quality. But any Australian cricket broadcast was such a contrast – The picture was crystal clear. The Aussie broadcasters have changed it now, but the sound from the stump microphone was likeable back then. :--D Oh the days… #IMissThe90s

I dont remember 84 win but I vaguely remember that people were very happy. Then I remember the Chetan Sharma hat trick (89 WC) , i was eating an omelette when he took the hat trick. The 92 WC where Miandad was jumping like a dhakkan and after the WC I started watching ALL games. 96 was the time when cricket results affected my mood so obviously ind pak game was amazing and ind SL was depressing/sad and I told myself that I will never see India win WC, 2003 I couldnt believe that we were almost there but then again its was very disappointing to lose WC final to Aus while I was living in Aus.
