Last governor was the worst in India's history. This guy is brilliant.
Lol what can RBI do with such high inflation and lack of reforms.

With the rupee depreciating to new lows against $, its going to be a scenario of economic reform for the new governor when he steps in. 61.29 per $ is very alarming.

Very impressive resume. Looks like he'll be good for India. But, I don't get this:

n terms of where will growth come from, it doesn’t need to come from fancy stuff like extraordinary innovation of one kind or another. Just getting people from agriculture into services and industry itself is growth.
How is shifting from agri to services "growth?" Is he saying that agri is a non-growth enterprise? If that is the case, he should be talking about strategies to convert agriculture into a growth sector by making it easier for farmers to be productive and run profitable operations without toiling as much as they do now. Move away from the sustenance farming model that has dominated for so long despite the green revolution.

They are already talking of many differences he's had with Chidambaram since Chiddu became the FM last year! Not sure how much freedom he's going to get to implement his ideas. Lots of whispers in Delhi about India in negotiations with IMF for a package.

Many things. Unfortunately Subbu did all the wrong things. Of course it is not entirely his fault.
What he did was the right thing by trying to control inflation when it was at its peak and he brought it down.RBI Has limited powers rajah will not do any wonders unless cdi, reforms, atmosphere improves.

Wikipedia lists Raghuram as a US citizen - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raghuram_Rajan If this is true, this might be a problem.
It *is* Wikipedia, after all :-). But if they are correct, the Indian gov't should be pounded for not doing even simple due diligence.
Finance ministry official: "Abbe ... RBI ke liye woh Raghuram Rajan kaise rahega?" Clerk: Mast, saab. Ai Ai Tee ka hai aur Ai Ai Em ka bhi. Aur kya kehte hain ... Chicago univeristy mein bhi tha. Madam log kehte hai ki dikhne mein bhi tip taap hai. Jawaan bhi hai .. FM official: Wah bhai .. hamein to pataa nahin thaa. Magar desi hai kyaa? Videsh mein itne ... Clerk: Kyaa baat kar rahe ho saab .. Raghuram Rajan bole to saalaa Madraasi hai na saab. FM official: Theek hai theek hai. appointment letter tayyaar karo and paanch minat mein lao. Varna saala Chidu chidega. Clerk: Ram Ram saab.

Too little too late, no matter how big a genius he is, its out of control. Measures that he is gonna think of now, and put them in front of govt hoping that they will allow, should have been implemented 4-5 months ago.

If the proposal of merger of PSU banks goes ahead it will reform the banking sector and economy massively in India .That is probably his biggest challenge internally .

Islamic banking proposal may get a push under Rajan http://zeenews.india.com/business/news/finance/islamic-banking-proposal-may-get-a-push-under-rajan_81465.html :nice: One step closer to Sharia.
:WTF: All indian banks allow Muslims to invest without interest so why the hell they need separate banking.

I can argue on policy decisions. But lets leave that aside because there is scope for subjectivity there. I think where I was disappointed in him was how reckless he was with his choice of words and statements. Truly pathetic. He should have calmed the frail nerves.
