Throught out his career, his lack of application was well concealed by saying that being aggresive is his natural game. That was such a lame excuse. Remember 2008 aus series whichfor was a comeback game for viru. He played a very sensible game in second innis and saved the match. He always had potential to play sensible cricket but threw it away in the name of natural game.

Ask a youngster like Kohli or Pujara if they would love to have all that Sehwag achieved, you would what a 'waste' it was. he could have done more, but he didn;t really 'waste' it.

lol, average 50 at such a quick strike rate. India won so many tests cause of him and it was after India found solid openers in Gambhir and Viru that they became No.1. The middle order was solid even in late 90's.

In tests he has away series win to Pakistan a series win in England and home wins against everybody else. In a career spanning for nearly 11 years. Waste? As a matter of fact he has achieved more than what he could have. When someone with such a loose technique can score these many runs, with a a very good average then it's not a waste!

Nowadays, Iam loosing interest in test cricket because of absence of Sehwag. He is a must against Pakistan. If one of Vijay/Dhawan fails in test cricket in the next one year,I see Sehwag coming back , provided he sorts out his eye problems.

He should still be brought back in tests ..I am not too convinced that Murali Vijay will succeed in SA,England or Australia .. his ODI and T20 days are behind him but still , He has much to offer, especially with Tendulkar's imminent retirement at end of SA series in SA in Dec-2013 ... Considering that Viru is still 34-35 ,I see this phase as similar to Tendulkar in 2006-2007 when everyone including Greg Chappell had written his career off ..we know Sachin bounced back in. 2008-2009 had amazing years during 2008-2011 ...so definitely there is a case to take Viru to SA ..he gives that x-factor to take the attack apart ..it was not too long back when he hit England attack out in Ahmedabad 2013 for a wonderful 100 resulting in first test win ..

Even though Viru's was a fulfilling and accomplished career it will always seem curtailed to me because when he first came on the scene he was indistinguishable from Sachin on the telly and he himself mentioned growing up watching him play and his influence upon his playing style. But Sachin is still going on and Viru has come and gone. guess his career had a higher velocity than Sachin's.
