Hardly any of the current generation (Dhawan Rohit Kohli Pujara Rahane or Vijay) played any overseas cricket in recent times. Dont see any reason to write them off on the basis of Dravid , Sachin , Laxman , Gambhir or Sehwag failures in recent times

He wouldn't make it to the SA tour. It seems impossible in such short notice. Its pretty much obvious that it might be Sachin's last series and the #4 slot can be filled by Kohli and #5 by Rahane/Rohit/Sehwag.

Anderson is a good bowler ..but don't forget , he has been ripped apart in the past ..I see that if he does not get initial wickets and is worn down , it's much easier to face him ..just like in last two ashes tests B-> Viru will take him apart B->B->B->

It is not like we need him in India either.We lost 2-1 to England and beat Aus 4-0 without him .And Dhoni ave nearly 90 in the Aus series batting at 6. I hope u arent suggesting we play him at 6 in Eng SA or Aus

What I am suggesting that Viru should be nowhere near the team as an opener and if at all he's got to be there in the team, it should only be at #6.

How many more tests Sehwag needs to prove that he can do better ? The guy played 100 tests and still could not deliver on tougher non Asian conditions. India is set to play away tests for next whole year and Dhawan is right choice and can play for net 7 to 8 years. He has the hunger and can better than Sehwag away from home. Even if he fails , Dhawan will get the experience and can come back stronger. Sehwag careless attitude and poor work ethics is not what India need for the young next generation players.

Other notable late bloomers : 1. Mike Hussey - debut at 30 yrs 2.Misbah Ul Haq- Established in Pak team at 34-35 years age and still going strong at 39 years , being the best Paki batsmen among 3.Matt Hayden ..late 20s-early 30s So to write off Sehwag at 34 years age is laughable ..:hmmm:

Swann and Monty would have not been very comfortable bowling at him. India lost because they let Swann and Monty to dominate.

Waste? 100+ tests, 17000+ int'l runs, 38 100s and 70 50s, 2 triple 100s, highest ever ODI score, a world cup winner, helped his team reach test no 1. Ask a youngster like Kohli or Pujara if they would love to have all that Sehwag achieved, you would what a 'waste' it was. he could have done more, but he didn;t really 'waste' it.
