1. He has given different times. At first he said at that time the thought of retiring didn't cross his mind, then he says he didn't want to take away the limelight from the WC win. If he really meant it, he could have easily taken his remnant 2 weeks later. 2. i don't think anybody gave a damn about Sachin's IPL retirement or even MI's IPL victory for that matter.

To be fair MTC, he could have announced his retirement a couple of months later as well if that was the case. I think Tendulkar felt he still had something to contribute to the team and the opinions of the senior members in the squad may also have made him give that final push. Raghav - This does not have to be either/or situation. BCCI wants to cash on Tendulkar's 200th Test AND send CSA a message. They just found the sweet spot this time around. I must add it is a shame for a player like Tendulkar to be caught in this power show boating by the BCCI. He deserves better.

Dude, announcing retirement is not an easy job for any professional sports person. One has to take a lot of time to get himself to take a decision. He might have thought he still can play for a year, but when he realized that he couldn't, he retired.

But why does he changes his statement from 'it didn't cross my mind' to 'I didn't want to overshadow the win'. Whether he retired at right time or not is a different discussion. And even if he didn't want to overshadow he could have retied some time later.

A many things like , even the 100th ton wouldn't have crossed his mind. 2. At the same time, the overshadowing part is right. His retirement might have overshadowed the WC win and certainly he would have discussed this with his friends or fellow players. "I didn't wan't to take the limelight after WC won", came after when he actally thought about his retirement. Probably the media asked the question like this, "Will announcing the retirement after WC win would have shifted the focus on u? ". Knowing our media morons, I m certain that they would have asked twisting questions to him for the sake of headline.

So when is the tour of SA set to take place if its defo on. I hope we can squeeze in 3 ODIs and 3 test matches. Ideally we should be playing 1 T20, 3 ODIs and 3 Test matches. or 19 days of cricket on a tour lasting 35 days with tests from 16-20 December 26-30 and 2-6 Jan ending the tour. 7 ODIs from CSA was way over the top and they wanted to cash in big time. If the BCCI want to send CSA a message then playing 3 ODIs in place of 7 will do just that. I doubt CSA make money from test cricket anyways. From what i am reading the administrators in NZ are breathing a huge sigh of relief that 5 ODIs are to be played in NZ netting them $30 million. They sure as hell did not mind 2 tests.

My only fear is, if he retires straight after the 200th test, he would be termed as the most selfish player ever! Nonetheless, I agree with Dexter. This thread is just speculation. Let Sachin or BCCI come out with something official. It's unfortunate that Sachin got caught in the middle of this.

I dont think he is going to retire. It at most is his home retirement as we are not playing test cricket at home much after this.

well people i know in mumbai cricket told me a few months back that sachin was looking at play significant chunk of the ranji season. I always assumed it was in prep for the SA tour.

BCCI is known to come up with cr@ppy schedules. Maybe it's a combination of that along with trying to cash in on Sachin's 200th test.
