The Indian Cricket Board's bid to change the existing rule of using two new white balls in One Day Internationals (ODIs) saw strong opposition from some of the other member Boards which led to ICC only agreeing to use one ball in a curtailed match. It is learnt that there was a voting among the representatives of the ten Test playing nations at the ICC Chief Executives Meeting in Dubai and there were four countries that voted in favour of existing rule of the use of two new white balls from two ends. "There was a voting process and India along with Pakistan, Bangladesh voted against use of two new balls. Australia, New Zealand, England and Zimbabwe were among those in favour of using two new balls while West Indies and South Africa abstained from voting. We have expressed our reservations about using of two new balls," BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel told PTI on Wednesday. "We continue to oppose the usage of DRS. We have informed them that BCCI is not ready to accept DRS unless it is foolproof. In any bilateral series involving India, DRS won't be used," Patel stated. It hurts spin-dominated bowling attacks. I could see where BCCI was coming from. Even Dhoni had mentioned that this ball change is a major concern from strategy point of view.

Why were we opposing it anyway? The rule which should be opposed is the rule of max 4 outside the 30 yard circle.

Two new balls expose part-time (spin) bowlers and force India to play an all rounder. In the SC (where we play most of the games), this is a nightmare for spinners. India's position is quite understandable - choice between getting smashed in the death versus getting smashed in the death and middle overs. Note the new rule on the limit for men outside the 30-yard circle.

You have to look at the personnel rather than opposing it. During the start of the T20 as a format people claimed that spinners would be smashed out of the attack. Nothing of that sort really happened. You have spinners like Sir and Narine who are match winners.

Yes but still have to play 3 seamers.Maybe Dhoni is looking to play 7 bats and use Yuvraj,Raina as part timers which isnt possible now.

Their vision stops at 100m.[/quote'] fair point @Lord Dhoni is using as more part timers than ever based on the cricket i am seeing. From Kohli to Raina to Rohit Sharma. If anything Kohli stuck to the main bowlers. I just dont see this rule being a problem. Should be good for us with Bhuvi bowling well with the new ball.

Our seamers are lot more effective with 2 new balls. We also won Champions Trophy with 2 new ball rule. Not sure why BCCI wants the rule to change.

Low scoring games and early departure of subcontinent teams, specially India, will be a financial disaster for Australia. We will probably see wickets with good bounce but don't expect green tops or pitches heavily baked in bowlers' favor

It was a really a dumb move by vcci.The rules suit india our bowlers always have been dependant on movement and with two new balls it helps our bowlers.Alsoit has made us play 5 bowlers which is also good and attacking move.

srilanka should also join the neighbors in this case as this rule effects them too. bcci for a change thinking right. but why approve this biased change in the first place which negates a beautifull charecter(spin) of subcontinental pitches?
