express bowling
If Pandey can maintain pace of atleast 135 to 140 k then he has the potential to be a complete pacer. He has height/ bounce, swing , seaming ability, accuracy and wicket taking acumen. I really want a tall pacer who is good too, provided he has the basic minimum pace. Link to comment
msb1991
I've very interested in watching Pandey bowl in a Test match, I think he can do well from the limited amount I've seen. Outswing is a good trait for a bowler. Link to comment

gattaca
I watched some footage. What's the hype about? A tall bowler bowling at 135 - 140 k and having good average in domestic circuit is gold stuff for us considering the dearth of fast bowling or primarly the selection of fast bowlers in india is considered. alexander
128-132 kph. That is what I saw. Link to comment
express bowling
128-132 kph. That is what I saw. In a couple of televised first class matches, he bowled 128 to 139 k in one and 128 to 136 k in another.Mostly 132 to 133 k. He will be interesting only if he has added a bit of pace as being claimed. We will have to see him in a couple of internationals to form a clear idea. Link to comment
alexander
I am all for giving a player a decent run before judging him. But from the footage I've seen, I'm not impressed. He is a big unit but doesnt bowl with any fire. Link to comment
rkt.india
Harris and Broad bowled a few times above 90mph in recent ashes. Siddle can certainly crank it to high 80s at times. Anderson in his pomp was defo hitting 90mph at times but does seem to have slowed down a bit . Anderson hit 90 mph even at Perth and was averaging 85 mph plus. Siddke is just bowling within himself according to his role. He can bowl as quick as any. Link to comment
rkt.india
Can you read or are you blind ? I wrote average speed of 135k. They can crank it up but they bowl an average of 135k in a spell. Go and watch when they bowl. it does not work that. Even Steyn will have average speed of 135 sometimes but they crank it up. Anyway, Harris average speed is mostly around 86-87 mph which is 139-140k with quickest being around 91 mph. Harris is a genuine fast bowler. Anderson and Broad's average speed in Perth test were 88 mph, quickest 90-91 mph. Siddle can bowl as quickly as any but he is given a restricting role so he is bowling within himself, still touched 140. England bowlers have been successful at 135 when they get swing but it did not happen in Aus this time with bare pitches and failed big time specially Anderson. Link to comment
express bowling
Broad and Anderson mostly bowl 130 to 139 k these days. They have the ability to bowl quicker but are not doing that very often. Maybe , just in an odd innings or so. Same case with Siddle. Harris, on the other hand, is bowling 135 to 145 k consistently this season. Link to comment

Anderson is 30 plus and has slowed down now but he still can bowl quick when needed. Broad has always been like that but Broad is 6 feet 6 even if he is bowling 135-139, he will be effective as he is pretty consistent and has good bouncer. MCG Ist innings Broad average speed 86, quickest 91, Anderson 84, 88. Harris 86, 91, Siddle 83, 92. 2nd innings Broad average speed 85, quickest 91. Anderson 83, quickest 87. Harris 85, 89, Siddle 83, 86. Perth Ist innings Broad average speed 85, quickest 91, Anderson 85, 90. Harris 87, 91, Siddle 83, 87. 2nd innings Broad 85, 90, Anderson 84, 89. Harris 86, 90, Siddle 83, 86. Only Siddle is at an exact 135K average speed in these last two tests and that is because he is give a role to be supporting Harris and Johnson being economical and strangle them, other Siddle too can bowl as quick as any of them bar Johnson. The fastest speeds in Cricinfo are not very reliable, as I said before. The average speeds are reasonably close. I think the English pacers were generally a bit quicker in Perth, because of the more helpful conditions. Generally, in the other tests, if you see, they were mostly in the 130s. As the ball wasn't swinging much, inspite of their height, they were not as effective as the much quicker Johnson and reasonably quicker Harris. When the ball is not moving much, a team needs pacers bowling in the 140s consistently and hitting the deck hard. Like Johnson, Steyn and Morkel. Link to comment
Vijy
Pandey needs to provide bounce and swing at a reasonabl good pace. A good selection, though Pankaj Singh deserved a chance as well. Link to comment

Is this what team really needs? At times 128, I dont see much excitment. Is he that tall anyway. 6ft 2 is not exactly morkel, temlett and Broad tall. Will he ge that much bounce? Doubt it. Height is no good without pace. Hope he does well but if reports are true, not much to excite and maybe just another trundler Link to comment
mancalledsting
Fantastic!!! Just what we all wanted to hear! "I bowl at 130-135 kph and swing the ball well. Rather than trying to bowl faster, I would prefer to improve on my swing and accuracy while maintaining my current pace.†Ishwar Pandey- India's latest pace bowling sensation http://m.bcci.tv/news/article/7436;jsessionid=B35E5F5285AC06E3E9AAB2CC6E4C6B40 Link to comment

vvvslaxman
Atleast he accepts he is not an out and out pace bowler. We as fans have to be sensible. We cannot expect every fast bowler that is coming to bowl at same speed. For instance Siddle was barely touching 135k. OUt and out fast bowlers are largely "self-motivated". You cannot spoonfeed someone to become an express bowler. Link to comment
