Don't think he played that much of a CT... Looking up he has played a grand total of 6 CT games in the span of 7 years in 3 CTs. After 2009. Just 3 of them. Hardly an indicator how good a player he is. In the current CT. He had just two outings. In 2009 just one outing. We cannot draw any conclusion from couple of failures there. All we can say is he underachieved there. Someone who has been in top 10 ICC rankings has to have done something right.
Ok now here is where I need to get back to the point of the thread...DHoni being hailed as the greatest Finisher or match-winner or whatever....Now we both are on the same page when it comes to agreeing that Dhoni is a stellar ODI player,no doubt a great utility player no doubt but definitely his enigma is bloated due to some inconsequential Srilankan games and some minnow cashing(not a typo-Cashing was used on purpose)... I can clearly see a trend where being the cpatain, Dhoni has chopped and changed the batting order to suit himself on multiple occasions...The other finishers like Bevan and Hussey never had this luxury.....Personally though I rate dhoni above Bevan and below Hussey.

^ I don't consider T20 proper cricket' date=' so didn't include it in the list - it was World Cups and Champions Trophy.[/quote'] He sucked badly there and still keeps picking himself in the X1

Dhoni is clearly the 2nd best ODI batsmen after Sachin. He might not have performed that well in ICC tournaments yet but he might change that in Upcoming tournaments. Also i sense some butthurt in Maniac:hmmm:(seen this on many occasions) may be this has got to do with him playing for csk.Scoring against lankans is not easy.He played Mendis and Murali well in 2008 when we have been flopping to mendis. He is one of the best in ODI's.He will finish his career with 10000+ runs.

His batting positions in ICC ODI. In 2007 he failed .. against BD and SL. If he had scored you are going to say "he just scored against Srilanka" . In 2011 world cup. 9 ODIs 241 runs 48.20 avge 81.69 Strike rate Hardly poor for a batsman who came at no.6 or later.
If anything he was a failure in WC with bat if you take final out. These numbers are as misleading as kambli's test batting average of 54.

Abbey oye........You really think I care about CLT20 :haha: or take IPL personally....It all started with people going crazy over MSD's innings today ....go back and read my opinion on Dhoni in the past.... Anyways glad Raghav_12 is in this discussion....welcome bro :icflove:

No one has screwed Srilanka so much since Prabhakaran
We have played more than 50 matches against SL in last 3-4 years and Srilanka was not too bad with Murli and Mendis in form just 2 years ago.

No way Dhoni is the 2nd best ODI player for India after SRT.....Kapil' date=Kumble,Saurav and Yuvraj are all before him
Your opinion. It varies. At the end of his career he will finish close to 11k runs.

Not deriding Lanka......Saying that Dhoni has his average and mythical skills by playing consistently against one opposition over and over....Dhoni is very good but made to be unbeatable thanks to Lanka...He is one of the best ODI players in the world right now but definetely not the runaway best as he is made out to be in recent times.

Didn't Tendulkar say he would swap his man of the series for tournament win implying he rated a match winning knock in the final is better than all the runs he scored in the 2003 tournament.

SRT, Kapil Dev and Yuvraj are clearly ahead of him in terms of contribution in LOI for India......

So you are using a statement made in humility by a guy who is head and shoulders above Dhoni in all aspects  Dhoni did not singlehandedly win anything,he contributed when it mattered a lot for that we should love him like forever ,but not disrespect others who are head and shoulders above him.

Nobody is putting him on pedestal. You are the only calling him mythical despite averaging 50 plus Not long ago you were orgasming over Perera's bowling. You were crying foul when SL players were not allowed in chennai. Now that he tore his ass off in the CL you are trying to comfort yourself by saying "useless perera" . He not only massacred your perera.. also Steyn. Not to mention a hack like Vijay butchered Ishant sharma :hehe: Every single player has some kind of blot in their record. Magnifying with zoom l ens and putting down his entire career is mostly out of prejuidice for whatever reason. Funny thing is you are hyping a completely useless player as next big thing after Tendulkar, but putting down a player who every team would love to have. :cantstop: May be if his name is Mahendra singh Korapatti you would have loved him.

I could care less about Perera .....Did I put down Dhoni the player-Go back and read my posts again. All I am saying is Dhoni is a master of Cashing in which is an art and needs to be appreciated but no way he is a player for all seasons-the type his fans make him out to be....I would back a young Kohli or a relatively similar aged Gambhir or Yuvraj to deliver brlliant innings on all surfaces for all seasons. On S.C,I think Raina is a better clutch player where as Dhoni just uses his power to manipulate the batting order-Kudos to him for delivering(more often than not against Lanka and minnows) Infact I argued with Outsider in the past when there was top XI slots for Alltime Indian XI poll-to have his name in all time XI WK list for India over everyone else and yes in tests too....But I always beleived he is overrated more often than not.

What kind of logic is this? How does being good against a particular opposition undermine a batsman's career? I do believe Dhoni is overhyped but if you want to criticize a player focus on his failures, not his successes.

I already mentioned his failures in ICC tourneys and in the T20 format where he picks himself despite being useless in like 6 years.....That was in response to his allround greatness against all teams.....SL/Zim a win is a win but consistency against 1-2 teams shouldnt be a qualification when measuring a 'G.O.A.T"

Gambhir had couple of golden years. Nowadays he can't do jack on any surface. Yuvraj is a great ODI player.. A form player. If he gets a run he will run with it. You are using the argument Dhoni scores only against SL. If you look at it Kohli is even worse in that. He is yet to prove against all sides consistently. Your one-eyed observation falls flat there. But if i want someone to stick around in a tight situation and take the game as close as possible without losing his wicket under pressure i would back DHoni more than anyone ever played for India.

That is because the most you play against a particular team, you will have more better innings against that team.

Serious butthurt here.He has played well against all nations in SC better than Raina.
