I was amazed to see the number of people who are completely misinformed. Bumped into a dozen people who thought Government shut down = No one guarding federal prisons, no cops on the street  Collective IQ of a dung beetle.

A comment on yahoo article:

My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day. He has his food prepared for him. He can eat whenever he wants, 24/7/365. His meals are provided at no cost to him. He visits the doctor once a year for his checkup, and again during the year if any medical needs arise. For this he pays nothing, and nothing is required of him. He lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than he needs, but he is not required to do any upkeep. If he makes a mess, someone else cleans it up. He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep. He receives these accommodations absolutely free. He is living like a king, and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever. All of his costs are picked up by others who go out and earn a living every day. I was thinking about all this …… suddenly it hit me like a brick. My dog is a Democrat.
Looks like this will take weeks :nervous:

The House passed several bills to keep all parts of the govt going, except PPACA. They even passed one that would only delay PPACA by a year, while keeping all other parts of Govt going at current levels. Go look it up, it is on record. But, they just can't get it past the obS(t)enate (which, until recently, had not passed any kind of budget or spending bill of its own for 3 years!!) and the President (who'd rather see the entire govt shut down than his pet project shelved for a year).

Republicans can't bear the fact that affordable care act was passed, shutting the govt is the only way to repeal the act. Dems know the only way to regain congress is by shutting down. So there is politics in play on both sides.

In any case, some major parts of the law have been delayed (e.g., employer mandate), waivers have been granted (esp. to unions), and implementation has been a nightmare. But the Senate and the President are in no mood for it.

@Cricaddict, Yes the house offered piecmeal legislation, but I am surprised that you are supporting this kind of behavior (regardless of who does it), this is pure blackmail by the repub party, the analogy brought up by various writers, how would Republicans react "If gun back ground checks is attached to the same CR by Senate Democrats and they wont pass it unless and until the house passes the same legislation?" Regardless of ACA being good, bad etc etc, what the house and especially Boehner is doing is what a 2 bit kidnapper does, this is outright blackmail and should not be supported by anyone.
