12:30pm: And here we go, finally umpires decided to call it off for the day. As per the updates, they will inspect the ground tomorrow morning before the start and will decide the rest as it's not yet in a good manner to kick off the match. Do join us on day 2, till then take care.
What a disappointment!

No rains through the day and yet the play had to be abandoned? Well done BCCI. Looks like Srini's idea of developing Kochi as a test center has gone down the drain now. Hopefully they have better facilities for the ODI they host later vs WI.

Once again delayed start despite not much of rain. Play likely to be called off for the day during the 2nd inspection at 11 am. Apparently the outfield was not covered, and its that wet area which is not drying up due to very poor drainage facility. Such a disappointment.

Not it is an old stadium. First tournament conducted here was in 1997.

Its also a football stadium. Perhaps the officials think wet outfields are ok as you can still play football there. Also, Kochi will be hosting 2 ODIs in one year. Hosted one vs England earlier this year and has been allotted another one vs WI.

Compared to the established centers like Chennai/Mumbai/Bangalore, Kochi is relatively a new stadium. Wonder why it doesnt have drying facilities inspite of being in heavy rainfall area?

Haridas: "I am from Kochi. There haven't been any rain here at Kochi for the last 36 hours at least. Then I don't know what is preventing this match from starting. On the other hand, if the out field is still wet, then that has to do something with the drainage in the ground. Normally one and half days of full sunshine should be more than enough for the ground to get back to normal conditions. PS : Sun is belting down here at Kochi right now !!"

IIRC an ODI at Kochi vs Aussies was also abandoned despite the ground being in bright sunshine because the outfield was wet after overnight rains. The ground has 2 supersoppers but apparently not enough sheets to cover the entire outfield. No updates on ESPN or CI yet. Inspection was scheduled at 2 Wet outfield despite bright sunshine delaying such an important FC match for 2 days.

As for now we will have 2 hours play 3:30 to 5:30 min 30 overs, wonders whose idea it was to have two imp games on such poor grounds, most good grounds drain in couple hours with no rain in two days still the ground is wet lol, shows mgmt priority

Someone remind ESPN the match is about to start. They have not even shown the toss and gone live to the ground yet. Hopefully they will add the extra day to the match, that ways we will have 4 days and one session. Start 30 minutes early each day and thats another session over 4 days, effectively meaning only one session lost.
