King Tendulkar Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 Its more of a question of which MJ turns up. A good MJ is unplayable by even the best. A bad MJ is as bad as Ishant Sharma. He was excellent for Mumbai in the IPL. In the champions league he was poor. The real question if MJ can sustain his good form through a 7 match series. Well has been consistent for a while now. IPL, then odi series v england and now this last game. His action is better, more relibale now as arm is more vertical now. But yes pace at that level and on the money can get out the best. To be honest its all about how some look against it and wether they look like can cope. of course may still get out but you can get a feel on ability to handle it. Like last game Rohit and Kohli looked solid against his thunder bolts(of course can still get out). While Yuvraj genuinley looked jumpy, not just got out to him but whole way he played his balls was poor. Raina also looked jumpy

Raina also looked jumpy Kohli looked solid but was slow. you have to keep in mind that in the dhawan-rohit combo its upto Dhawan to force the issue. I think thats his role. We were chasing 300 and the first 5-6 overs were quiet. So its natural Dhawan, go for his shots. Personally i thought India handled Johnson well. Its the relatively slower bowlers like Faulkner and McKay we played some poor shots to.
FischerTal Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 @laaloo- yeah I think pujara should replace Yuvi or Raina in the middle but it's not gonna happen given their better fielding standards @yoda-esque- true and dhoni coming at#6 or 7 will not have to worry about movement too much unless the pitch behaves like the one yesterday
GautiMaan Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Dhoni should bat at 4,he's best suited to handle the threat and he's done it before too.

express bowling Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Express bowling, yeah get pujara in. To be honest jury is out wether he can handle it as well:cantstop: In SA last time had a mare. Some say his low hands will cause him problems, although never hindered VVS Saying that I think he can. But am not putting any money on it In tests the two who I think would be able to handle pace and bounce the best looking at their techniques and evidence so far are Kohli and Rohit Raina, Yuvi and Dhoni are lost causes Jadeja no chance Jury out on Dhawan and Pujara The next 12 months is the most fascinating in decades for indian fans to see which out of brand new team is the real deal and who was just a false dawn Pujara's only problem against pace that I have noticed is that whenever he hooks the high short ball, he does not roll his wrists and ends up playing the ball up in the air. Otherwise he is ok. Dhawan has a similar problem against high bouncers on the leg stump. He plays short balls on the offside or below the shoulders quite decently. I hope they can rectify this aspect. They probably will, given that they are hard workers.

The way Jarvis and pattinson got him out was because he didn't judge the line properly. However, this is easily rectifiable in comparison to Rohit's complete lack of front-foot defense.
King Tendulkar Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 I would back pujara to work hard and sort out any issues.

Not all bowling attacks are good and not all pitches are bowler friendly. Remember the pakis and how they bowled no short balls to Raina in the SF? Raina feasted on Gul. I would just drop Jadeja to be honest. 4 proper front line bowlers and someone like Yuvi someone else can bowl the other 10 overs.
CG Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Dhoni should bat at 4' date='he's best suited to handle the threat and he's done it before too.[/quote'] That will only happen if we are 200-2 .:cantstop:
CG Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 johnson has been a good odi bowler for a period of time now and being a leftarmer he is difficult to face for likes of yuvi, raina, dhawan .It all boils down to good start as recently we our wins have lot to do with opening patnership and i want india to bat first if they win the toss ,chasing in day night games against good bowling attack is always going to be difficult.
GautiMaan Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 That will only happen if we are 200-2 .:cantstop: I can remember a few series where he bailed us out by coming up the order at 4 or 5.
adi B Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 More than Johnson,I find McKay more difficult to play and much more troublesome for our batsmen who struggle against seam. movement..I never quite figured out which way the ball moves after hitting the deck when McKay's bowling I believe nohit and kohli will be most susceptible to McKay's nagging line and lengths

But i do feel Dhoni will lay him to waste in one match. Junaid Khan posed more problems to our players with uncomfortable angle. Dhoni targeted him though.
express bowling Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Pujara should be in the team of 15/16. Then 3 out of 4 among Pujara, Rohit, Rains and Yuvraj can play depending on the pitch, situation etc. I think it is extremely unlikely that Jadeja will be dropped by Dhoni given the fact that he is bowling well and most specialist bowlers are not. Also, generally captains tend to prefer alrounders in LOIs.

Having just a one dimensional pace attack , whether entirely pace dependant or entirely skill dependant is not really coveted, isn't it ? Johnson and McCay complemented each other whereas our attack had the skill of Bhuvi but the genuine pace of someone like Umesh was lacking.
Jersey #10 Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Nobody can handle both pace and movement Sachin says hello...

FischerTal Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Sachin says hello... In his prime yes, but the last two years, he was pretty bad atleast for his standards.
