The Realist Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Dhoni likes to be gagged Gag them all: The BCCI’s answer to India’s problems Imagine for an instant -- the Brazilian football team is leaving for the football World Cup. Only instead of leaving with pomp and fanfare, they sneak away. They book a hotel, get on the flight and just 'go' without a word to anyone. Would you be surprised? The Indian team left for Bangladesh to compete in the World Twenty20 championship in exactly the same way. No pre-departure press conference to spell out their vision to the country at large. No interviews. Rather, the only accompaniment was silence. The usual BCCI response to a bad performance or a controversy is to send somebody completely unrelated to the press conference. So when India was getting hammered in Australia in 2011-12 -- R Ashwin would end up in every second press conference. So much so that in one instance journalists refused to attend the press conferences unless BCCI sent someone else. Pragyan Ojha, when he is in the squad, is another fall guy. Whether he has turned in a good performance or not, Dhoni would often send the left-arm orthodox spinner up to face the media. The fielding coach, the bowling coach and others have also fallen in line. But why does the team have to sneak out ahead of the T20 World Cup? Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Duncan Fletcher didn't address the media before they leave the country -- they will go to Dhaka and speak to the media there. The players have all been gagged from speaking to the media and the selectors have been asked not to speak as well. This is the BCCI's response to the match-fixing and spot-fixing scandal that is plaguing the sport of cricket. If the players talk to the media, some uncomfortable questions may be asked and that's more than what the BCCI or Mahendra Singh Dhoni can handle. Virat Kohli, for one, has come out and spoken with a frankness that is almost endearing. Here is a guy who speaks his mind and perhaps Dhoni can learn from him. Some lawyer friends have mentioned that given how things stand (with the SC looking at the Mudgal Commissions recommendations), it is perhaps wise for anyone who may be involved (read Dhoni) to not say anything at all.... you never know how it may be used as incriminating evidence. But here we have one of India's richest sportsmen and he isn't able to come out and clear the air? How difficult can it be to come out and say 'I am not involved.' Of course, he has done this before. So the behaviour shouldn't surprise any of us. Just after the IPL spot-fixing scandal broke, the Indian was leaving for the Champions Trophy and even then Dhoni's response to all questions related to fixing was a cold smile. This time, we didn't even get that. Is Dhoni running scared? Are these scandals affecting the performance of the team? Are they affecting Dhoni's performances? So far, the silence is painting a pretty harrowing picture. http://www.firstpost.com/sports/gag-them-all-the-bccis-answer-to-indias-problems-1434063.html

I am so glad no Gavaskar :yay:
G_B_ Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 However to be fair the Indian media is toxic. So i back this before a major tournament.
