How Many of us would have picked Umesh Yadav ahead of Shammi in the 11

Akhtar is very underrated his record in tests is outstanding considering the roads he bowled on.
Akhtar had huge fitness issues, he couldn't bowl anything more then 3 or 4 covers in a spell, I would have Steyn any day over Akhtar .

His record in home conditions is far better.
Thats why i was saying that where the conditions are not Swinging or helpful....Umesh shud be preferred to BHUVI as well as Shammi. IN this form Shammi shud be a Good pick ahead of BHuvi.... Umesh is the First choice test pacer today and I pity he is not playing.

Let's cross our fingers, another bowler from s small town or village, reminds me of Munaf and how well he had bowled on his debut taking 7 wickets with swinging new and old ball at 147 being fastest and I was wondering he might go onto become India's best test bowler , what a waste a 6 3' bowler who could bowl in 90s and seam and swing the ball from s small runup to a discard

Talking of bowling combos in TESTS Umesh - Fast + Wicket taker Shami - Fast medium + skills + wicket taker Pandey - Tall + bouncy + skill + wicket taker maybe a good combination in SAF tests. Backup - Aaron if fit, BK. Zak - am not sure selectors would pick.

Selectors would be crazy not to pick Suyal a left arm fast, skillful bowler, Delhi prefers Trundler Narwal, washed out Nehra ahead of him is crazy

Munaf , at debut, looked the most talented and lethal pacer I have ever seen from India. One thing though ... Munaf always looked lazy, even RP to some extent. Sree was not level headed. Shami looks like a hard worker to me.

He has pace as well as movement. Attacks the stumps. Can be a wicket taker. I think he should be tried in the India A team first. If he is not playing for Delhi, that is a crime. Perhaps the most talented Delhi pacer I have ever seen. Great FC record too. What plays in the minds of our state selectors is a mystery.

Yadav is completely out of sorts, loi cricket has messed him up.I bet that he was outbowled in the nets by Bhuvi and Shami,we cant afford yadav's waywardness in these low scoring games.

I don't rate Sham/Yadav differently after Shamis recent improvement i saw in one dayers. But looking both Shami has more control, accuracy than Ummi. Bhuvan will always be my first choice. He is a kind of guy who is capable of picking 2 or 3 wickets in one spell.

You need someone to do well with new ball as well. In foreign conditions if all 3 are in form they can be deadly. Hope Ashwin improves his bowling abroad so that we can dispense with one spinner.

i would have selected these two only. Bhuvi has done decently in test and shami is in great form. Umesh is coming of a break and has not done great in build up matches. he needs some time. Bhuvi got only 1 big wicket but he bowled very well. he started accurately straightaway in the first spell when Shami was settling in.

If Varun Aaron recovers - then we have the basic pool of: Fast - Umesh Yadav (erratic) and Varun Aaron (injury prone) Medium fast - Shami Medium - Ishwar Pandey Slow Medium - Bhuvi Same side goal - Ishant Sharma

Just pointing out the true size of the "if."

I agree Munaf bowled a few overs between 140 to 147K n was kinda Real fast but I believe he had turned into a under 135K bowler from second test itself Nobody can Decline that fast - debut bowling between 136 to 147 and then all balls below 135 Incredible DECLINE
