At least myself i would have surely picked Umesh ahead of Shammi... BK was always the first Pacer...though i would have picked Umesh n shammi. but Dhoni wud have surely picked BK but i beleive had he picked Umesh, Umesh would have also got 3 or 4 wickets and proved his point.

i would have picked Umi then again he is another bowler who had the ability to reverse the ball. Nothing to suggest that he would not have picked up wickets.

Love the fact that a new talented bowler like BK is being completely dismissed based on a couple of matches. He was not even given a chance with the changed ball which got Shammi his wickets. As I have said before, Indian fans are mostly nothing but speed gun junkies and their praise or blame of a bowler is completely depended on speed gun readings (except RKT)

BK is a good bowler and he is important to Indian team because he bowls really well to left handers. So, it is puzzling especially in Indian conditions which two to play out of these 3 because of BK's advantage against left handers. His value once the ball goes past 15-20 overs is questionable and not just based on 2 matches but in domestic cricket as well.

Umesh has taken 32 wickets from 9 tests Strike rate 46, average 32 Bhuvi , before this test, had taken 6 wickets from 4 tests Strike rate 64, average 39.8 So, obviously, I would have picked Umesh with Shami.

His record in home conditions is far better.

Some people here just wanna typecast people who understand and appreciate pace bowlers in cricket and their value in worth its weight in gold, any day I would pick Steyn over Akhtar even though Steyn is normally in f/m to fastish bracket n Akhtar is express, but medium pacers in ODI and more in tests have a very limited role, a medium pacer can never be a attacking bowler or rarely run thru a side, BK is skillful but a capt cannot expect Much from him with a old ball and that makes him limited, he needs to bowl 133 to 142 range to be a lead bowler in test, my choice in test would be Shami, Umesh, Pankaj, Aaron,Suyal, Pandey

A Shaun Pollock and Akhtar combo is better than two Akhtars. You definitely need skilled bowlers who can play chess game with really skillfull batsman. I can guarantee that current English, Aussie and African batsmen will feast on any monotonous pace attack.

Agree. Akhtar with a better professionalism like Steyn would have been an ATG.
