What Sachin was to Indian team in 90's.!!

Don't know if this deserved a thread of it's own but still decided to go ahead. There are quite a few in younger generation who feels what a big deal about Sachin. There are many good players who play cricket for India. They don't realize the way India's all hopes used to pinned on just one person and TV's would be switched off as soon as Sachin is out. Still Tony Greig exclaims, is this the end of India? Because the person got out was Sachin Tendulkar. If this doesn't convey how Indian team used to be dependent on Sachin, then nothing else would.

Azhar was quality, Jadeja was a good ODI bat...but both were no where near consistent enough. Robin Singh and Kambli.. :cantstop: Cant agree more with OP, I think Indian Cricket Fans who are about in their mid 30's now especially would have started following cricket around when Tendulkar began to really hit the heights and will miss him the most...and also appreciate how much rested on him. Younger guys are spolit with the success we have had since 2000 ish and older guys will likely have seen Gavaskar and Kapil Dev so have a sense of perspective

+1. By 2002, Sehwag was beginning to give us great starts. Our chasing phenomenon started with the emergence of Yuvraj and mainly Dhoni. It started during that 2005-06 7 match series against Sri Lanka and took centre stage in Pakistan in those 5 ODI matches in 2006. Then Gambhir, Raina, and Kohli came into the fold, and the rest was history. To be honest, our way of ODI cricket in terms of chasing was transformed during that 2005-06 series against Sri Lanka. We've been getting better ever since.

Most players on the team were sick. In the final (India were bowled out for 125 - I remember Akram taking 2 wickets in the 1st over), Akram was suffering with fever as well.
