The Dhoni bashing thread

Nobody bowls 7 overs on the trot at the death. Genuine fast bowlers should be used in 4 or 5 over spells for optimum result. Further, Umesh is returning back after a long time and needed some overs under his belt. The aggressive approach is to attack upfront with your wicket taking pacers, Umesh and Shami in this case. They should have bowled 8 to 10 overs in tandem at the beginning. Should do this match after match. This is how great pace partnerships are formed.
absolutley. whole world knows this and implements this. Apart from dhobi

It is reverrsing a bit here with the old ball for Shami and Yadav. May be Dhoni read the pitch as a slow abrasive pitch and kept pacers for the older ball.

pressure was on the seamers with RSA bowling performance in last game- (bare in mind two of the seamers were making their comebacks). Despite this pressure/expectation they weren't quite hitting ideal lines and lengths. He just wanted and over here or there to confuse Amla/de Kock and mix it up so that the scoring rate did not escalate before bringing them back on after they regrouped. And it worked somewhat- Shami/Ish and Yadav all tightened up in their second spell.

Yes. It is not the arguments themselves but the circularity and inherent contradictions which annoy me. The same thing is present with bowling long spells and bowling short spells. Long spells means Dhoni is bowling into the ground and short spells means no confidence.
I think what is expected from Dhoni is pretty simple. What most good teams do. If you have 2 aggressive quicks in SAF, like Umesh and Shami, give them 8 to 10 overs in tandem, 4/5 each unless they are getting smashed. Attack upfront aggressively for wickets. Give them confidence in their roles as wicket takers, early on because , with the two new balls, their is movement on offer upfront. Regarding number of overs in a spell for frontline fast bowlers, the standard and effective thing is 4 or .5 overs upfront, 2 overs in the middle , .2 to 5 at the end ... unless the bowler is getting smashed.1 or 2 over spells at the beginning, 1 over spells in the middle, inspite of decent bowling, may cause injuries and does not allow pacers to get in rhythm. This is the expectation everytime, no anomalies. Pretty standard stuff really.

but the argument is there is reverse swing..
Good captaincy is not single minded. It is not black and white. It cannot be explained with single arguments. It is focussed on winning the game, not arguing a single case.

This is the expectation everytime' date=' no anomalies. Pretty standard stuff really.[/quote'] No good captain does the same thing every time. Otherwise, why have a captain? Just give the instruction sheet to any player.

It is spinning there, it is more of a subcontinent pitch now. the green tinge and all was crap, more of what happened in india-pak world cup semifinal, and india had nearly lost the match, though, we had bhajji, the spinner. chokers don't have spinners.

We might have got some wickets in the middle if seamers had got more overs
And we might have gone for more runs and still not taken wickets. That is why captaincy is difficult.

How does 4+2+4 or. 4 +3+3 look. Wouldn't the old ball be utilized too ?
