putrevus Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Geez why was Michael Clarke holding on to his spot despite losing 0-3 vs England' date=' 0-4 against India? losing home series to SA, only drawing against NZ Why didn't they remove? It is very very easy to throw the captain under bus. Internet experts will come up with every brain farts as ideas. If you consider all of them he will go nuts. Indian senior batsmen first were not availble. when they were available they were not upto mark. Zaheer's absence from England tour was a huge set back. With both batting and bowling failing result was always going to be 4-0. England as team was superior to us on that tour regardless of who was missing who was not playing. Barring Dravid our senior players let us down. England is saying the same thing now. They are attributing their bowling failure to their batting failure. IF batsmen don't put up runs on decent batting surfaces, bowlers will be pushed on the defensive.[/quote'] Clarke was holding on to captaincy because he still was the best player on his team and only guy who was doing something with bat. Dhoni never was the best player and even today he is not the best player . He got away on both counts his own bad performances and also his team's performance as he was extremely lucky they did not have anyone else. It wont be the case this time.
vvvslaxman Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Do you think any other indian captain would have survived 8-0 drubbing? Yes. If have achieved something until that time and your team is ready for transition he would have survived. Just imagine the amount of losses Australia after their greats retired. Look t the amount of losses West Indies is suffering still after mid 90s. Their transition is eternal.
maniac Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 What about 0-7.. :giggle: Dude.. he is no better than Dhoni in terms of results. In addition to that he created lot of issues among the team. After seeing last few years of cricket white washes are going to be a routine thing these days when two imbalanced sides meet. Only SA test series has some draws. Most of the test series are white washes these days. Much more result oriented these days. Windies but for one freak innings by Bravo would have suffered white wash in NZ. This is the new order. I never imagined India would whitewash even bangladesh in a 4 match series. We whitewashed Australia. Clarke performed as a player and he was so desperate to win in a couple of games in England in India that he took a gamble and lost which got acclaim as well as criticism but he got 100% forchis desire. Dhoni just stood there like a dummy and took it....the only attempt he made was the famous bowling at Lords debacle ...I can't even laugh at that because it makes me mad and angry at that boneheaded move

Shouldn't they remove him as captain for not winning matches? My point is there is some lee way when you go through transition state. Attributing every single test loss to one player lacks sense. One single player could not cause that many loss. Not even Imran Tahir. We had some oldies that needed to be gotten rid of. We got rid of them. We have gotten somewhere.
vvvslaxman Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 At this point i want Pujara and Kohli to be free of burden. ONly those two are good enough to be captain of the side.
vvvslaxman Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 This sub 30 average bowlers is not created because of Dhoni is the most ridiculous argument i have ever read. Let me see when Dhoni retires lol
Number Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 Clarke took over a team that was thrashed by England in their home 3-1 with big innings defeats. And that team had legends like Hussey and Ponting playing in it. In India they were whitewashed under Ponting too just 2 years ago, that team was much better. Clarke made them compete well and now they are on the rise.

ACtually there were some situations where the middle order just folded thanks to Dhoni's ineptness to play the 2nd new ball.....I attribute England's success in recent times to Prior.....Aus is winning games now thanks to Haddins form,S.A have AB keeping to add balance enough said.

Zak was injured. Yuvraj left half way. Tendulkar was not available half the tour. Gambhir/Viru not available. Gambhir got injured then. This was really a great team to even draw against a side that was at their peak of powers?
vvvslaxman Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Dhoni made some msitakes. But we lost mostly because entire team played inferior cricket in that 0-8 debacle. Coach samosa man was supposed to guide us in English conditions. Stop over-rating our side. We were no better than Bangladesh during that phase. Everyone was out of form bar Dravid in England series.

Well Clarke did throughout Homework gate and all that trashing and those examples have been given by a lot of us. Infact I will go a step ahead and say even Misbah has done a lot of good to the Pak team with all their issues. Dhoni has never lead from the front...it's just his brand that keeps him going
saneindian Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 We won't get that but at least someone who can be like Zaheer or Srinath will surely be there once Dhoni goes out. Yaar Zaheer averaged 36 under Ganguly. Captaincy had nothing to do with his comeback. BTW neither Zaheer nor Srinath average under 30 :--D

What about series loss to England in India too ? But yeah he is an all time great captain in Loyd, Border mould. Just wondering why all the channel 9 commies were laying into his great decisions throughout Aus series.

CG Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 His batting sucked in Tests. But that is not why we lost the series there. He is the captain ,He gets all the accolades for wins and responsibility for defeats particularly when he lost at home while barking for turners and making a fool of himself.

BTW neither Zaheer nor Srinath average under 30 :--D Zaheer made a comeback in Dravid's captaincy. That's why I said we won't get any sub 30 bowler ever but Dhoni will make sure career of talented bowlers finishes and under him no bowler will become like even Zak or Srinath. He has done that constantly so far.
