You do realize that the Saffers were still trailing for most of his innings? Once they crossed the mark, they started going all the way up to 6 or 7 RPO for sustained periods. Being the player with the best defence on the team, it only made sense for Kallis to play a sensible innings.

At some point, he should have been more positive rather than making is more tougher for SA to claim a win. Imagine the hullabaloo, if it had been Tendulkar being so defensive.

Solid cricketer. No flair, no flamboyance, but one of the most highly effective guys. I would be hard-pressed to point to one or two Kallis innings that knocked my socks off, but his consistency with both bat and ball are simply amazing. The more I look at his stats, the more I am amazed.

He SURE retired from test cricket......and that is where is legacy resides primarily.
