SLICKR392 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Such BS. He was asking for a result oriented wicket. If he had any intention to pile up runs on a patta to make a comeback to the side, he wouldn't have asked for such a wicket.
CG Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Not sure if it is to benefit delhi. it is to benefit Gambhir more. He is a king on slow' date='low pitches even when out of form. When you have Nehra, Awana, Narwal, Pawan Suya as your main wicket takers of the season why do you want a turning track. Duh Not a single spinner made any difference to Delhi's fortunes.[/quote'] :hysterical: man u do not follow ranji do you,Gambhir shifted from kola to roshanara ground where the pitches were green and ball helped fast bowlers because he wanted to win for delhi not himself. delhi won one match and lost against punjab at that ground.
gattaca Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Great job Venkat Sundaram.. that was slap on the face reply "If you have to fiddle with pitches so much then you are not fit for playing Test cricket," fumed Sundaram, referring to Gambhir's repeated insistence on getting the grass shaved off to make it a turner Oh thats a slap on dhoni and ganguly as well. don't you think ?
gattaca Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 This curator seems to have lot of ego..and needs to be fired for coming out on what shouldve been confidential matter. Delhi is almost out of the tournament and they need an outright win against Karnataka for any chance of qualification. Whats wrong in asking for a custom pitch which all home teams would ask for..Its one thing if BCCI is overlooking the pitch curation and not allow any teams to opt for a pitch which suits their strength..When this is not in place' date=' Gambo has right to ask for a pitch that suits their strength..Big talking curator needs a slap.[/quote'] You are wrong. BCCI has rules abt pitches. No one except the curator can decide their fate. No need to sling at the curator.
vvvslaxman Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Oh thats a slap on dhoni and ganguly as well. don't you think ? That is true. But at the international level you do what others do to you. I am not sure about how they prepare pitches in domestic cricket. Curator has full autonomy or home team has influence i have no idea. If Curator has the final say why influence them.

I am not sure about how they prepare pitches in domestic cricket. Curator has full autonomy or home team has influence i have no idea. If Curator has the final say why influence them. Influence them? Asking for a result oriented pitch - seam or spin - is influencing curators? I wish every captain did the same.
BeautifulGame Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Mat wickets? I don't think any Ranji matches have been played on mat wickets for at least 20 years. I was referring more to the matches u play before getting into the Ranji team. Most of them are on mat wkts as far i have seen.
vvvslaxman Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 What now 202 all out on what is not a result oriented pitch. Above all seamers from Bangalore has done the damage. But gambhir opened bowling with spinner instead of Nehra.

shortbread Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 And ppl wanted gambhir to be kaptaan he is no different. Sehwag and Gambhir are facing the harsh realities of competing with younger talent in the FC circuit. International reputations, records, opening 50 average, endorsements all count for faff all when you are being circled by cricketers who want a piece of you to prove their salt!!

vvvslaxman Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 they made it a result oriented pitch ' date='that was the point.[/quote'] So you say it is a rank turner? But the seamers are the ones who enjoyed in the first innings. And Delhi's spinners struggled. Anyway result depends on teams as well not just pitch. Frankly the tendency to have under prepared pitches is the reason some players struggle over seas.

They moved to center wicket ,The kotla pitch is nto suitable for fc matches,Its better to have result oriented wicket than draw specially when team need a win.

Duh Not a single spinner made any difference to Delhi's fortunes.[/quote'] Not correct if you say that Gambhir is asking for these pitches to suit himself. He fought a open was with DDCA to have match played at Roshanaara ground which has a very fast pitch, in his attempts to get more results in Ranji matches. Last match against Punjab was supposed to be played on docile track of Kotla but he got it shifted to Roshanara ground despite the fact Punjab has much better pace attack then Karnatka.
urbestfriend Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Delhi captain Gautam Gambhir has said he insisted that his team play their home Ranji Trophy fixtures on green pitches at the Roshanara Club, though playing on flatter tracks might have made it easier for him to score runs in a bid for an India comeback. "I have never played cricket for selfish reasons like scoring 800-900 runs on flat tracks to make a comeback," Gambhir told PTI. "Delhi team needed outright wins and I insisted on playing on green tops at the Roshanara rather than on a flat track. Had I played on a flat track, I could have got close to 900 runs." Delhi's strategy of playing at the Roshanara brought them their only two outright wins of the season, and helped them move up to second on the table. They lost their next match at the venue to Punjab, though, despite bowling them out for 74 on the first morning. Delhi eventually failed to qualify for the knockouts, finishing fifth in Group A. Gambhir made 578 runs in seven matches at 48.16, with one hundred and three half-centuries. He didn't find a place in India's squad to South Africa or in the squad that will travel to New Zealand later this month for five ODIs and two Tests. "It's a reality that I am not in the team to New Zealand," Gambhir said. "I wish all the 16-17 guys best of luck for the tour. As I have maintained, I don't play for comebacks, I play the game because I still have that hunger to perform. I want to be part of the team that wins a Test series in England and Australia. This is what drives me on, as in my 54 Tests we only won a series in New Zealand and drew in South Africa. "Frankly, I don't know whether I am 1, 2, 3 or last," Gambhir said, when asked about where he thought he stood in the pecking order among present Indian openers. "I know that my job is to score runs and I will continue to do that." http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/current/story/707249.html Thats gambo for you, always plays for a team! Lost the form at wrong moment, other wise I reckon he would have been far better captain. Hope he makes a comeback, although it looks unlikely at this moment. May be for England tour !

Gambhir needs to stop playing Pokemon. And it's not too unlikely to make a comeback - one of Vijay and Dhawan will fail in the 11 tests coming up. We don't have many good backup openers - Jaffer is deemed too old, and Zol too young. Khadiwale and Fazal had good seasons, but their overall records aren't good. Akshath Reddy has a fine FC record but he will never come close to being even considered. This leaves... Gambhir.
