Delhi team management's miscommunication with the ground staff took an ugly turn with the curator of Feroze Shah Kotla, Mr Venkat Sundaram accussing the Delhi skipper Gautham Gambhir of interfering into his job ahead of Delhi's final group league match against Karnataka tomorrow. After having played the majority of matches at Roshanara, Delhi are forced to play their final game against Karnataka at Kotla, a ground which they feel hasn't produced results. Gambhir and the team management were against this move. Roshanara will not be able to host their final league match, as they will not be available from December 30. They are hosting their 'New Year Bash' at the ground. Delhi presently have 19 points from 7 games and are aiming for full 7 points for which Gambhir wanted a rank turner, which will produce results. Karnataka are sitting pretty with 32 points and are already through to the knock-out stage. On the eve of the match, BCCI's chief curator Daljit Singh, Sundaram and DDCA vice-president Chetan Chauhan were seen having a discussion at the centre strip at the Kotla. "We are doing some corrections as per chief curator's insistence. The loose grass is being removed and we are using light roller with some sprinkling of water. We will be going with two spinners," Chauhan, who is also the chairman of selectors, said. Former Delhi opener Sundaram has had his differences with the Delhi team over the past years but things have now turned from bad to worse with his spat with Gambhir coming out into the open. "If you have to fiddle with pitches so much then you are not fit for playing Test cricket," fumed Sundaram, referring to Gambhir's repeated insistence on getting the grass shaved off to make it a turner. "I had got three pitches ready with one on which we had grown grass. They (Delhi team management) got the grass shaved off and now they are not playing on that track. Instead, they have chosen the centre wicket. We have made it match ready," Sundaram added. Sundaram's frustration has increased as he said that he has not received any salary from the DDCA since September 2011. Asked if he has spoken to Chauhan in this regard, Sundaram said, "He is also helpless as the cricketers are pressurizing him too much for the pitch of their choice." A senior member of the Delhi team management spoke about not getting a pitch of their choice. "We have learnt all our cricket playing at the Kotla but why do you think that we need to go to Roshanara these days. Doesn't it speak about the incompetence of the curator'" The senior member questioned. Asked about the track, he said, "It's a result-oriented one." Delhi are contemplating on playing the left-arm spin duo of Manan Sharma and Varun Sood alongside pacers Ashish Nehra, Sumit Narwal. Mithun Manhas and Virender Sehwag will be supporting them with their off-breaks, which means rookie Javed Khan will have to wait for his first-class debut. Left-handed Vaibhav Rawal and talented right-hander Milind Kumar will be vying for the No.3 spot. The pitches at kotla have. Been atrociously flat ,the dead grass makes it flatter .the guy should first learn to prepare pitches.

This curator seems to have lot of ego..and needs to be fired for coming out on what shouldve been confidential matter. Delhi is almost out of the tournament and they need an outright win against Karnataka for any chance of qualification. Whats wrong in asking for a custom pitch which all home teams would ask for..Its one thing if BCCI is overlooking the pitch curation and not allow any teams to opt for a pitch which suits their strength..When this is not in place, Gambo has right to ask for a pitch that suits their strength..Big talking curator needs a slap.

But Kotla is already a phatta, and having grass would have ensured a draw.

At the very least, he wants spinner friendly so he can get something for some bowlers at least, rather than no-assistance for any bowlers - then there is some outright result in the match than boring draw which wont take their team to next round.

TBF to Gambhir there is nothing wrong with what he asked.TN captain Balaji also asked chepauk curator to produce turning wkt as well(TN desperately need a result too like Delhi ).I am sure most other Ranji captains don this as well. The real problem is with the attention seeking curators .

These are grade A morons. Gambhir is trying to make it a result oriented pitch. That was the reason why he wanted games at Roshnara. He wanted to make sure it's hard to bat so that and games don't end in draw. It might be a strategy to keep Delhi in the quater final contention all this time, but it also shows that Gambhir never really wanted to earn free runs on patta wickets. To his credit, he always wanted challenging pitches.

The curator went to the media more due to the ongoing politics in DDCA. A section in Delhi cricket led by Bishen Singh Bedi has turned against Gambo and co. and all these reports in the media are a result of the rivalry. But like with Dhoni and the series against England at home last year, seems like all such fights have taken the focus away from cricket with Delhi on the verge of being knocked out. I do hope they somehow find a spot in the knockout. Will be fun to watch Ishant in the QF and picking wickets again in FC cricket!

Never ever understood all the of fake outrage over fabricated cricket pitches. As far as i can tell, the pitches need to meet only two criteria - 1) They should not pose an active threat to the physical well-being of the batsmen (Jamaica 1998) and 2) Run scoring should not be impossible (like in Ind-NZ 2002/03, when both the teams kept getting bowled for sub 150 totals). Other than that, every home team/captain absolutely has the right to ask for the pitches that cater to their strengths. It is not like the pitch gets replaced overnight after every day's play. ?It is the same pitch for both the teams. May the best set oif men win!
