The core of English squad, Broad/Anderson/Swann/Prior, never got along with Pietersen and Cook is too timid of a captain to tell these players to back-off. Flower comes across as bit of a control-freak and probably doesn't want any strong personalities around him. Pietersen may be bit arrogant but I can't recall any note-worthy English victories without significant contribution from Pietersen. Major involvement in all 3 Ashes wins, huge part in drawn and won series in SL and India, and man of the tournament in England's only limited over trophy. They use will use his desire to play IPL as a reason to axe him or embarrass him further.

Usually he would come up with a blinder of an innings atleast in one test. This series he could not do that. He is a bit of maverick. Blaming only him is not going to solve problems. I very much doubt any other England batsman would have done better in Australia. He will get his mojo back in the next series.

G_B_ Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I think this whole fiasco tells us that there needs to be a middle ground between a control freak like Flower and a laid back approach. I think Asian teams in general need to be more professional. While teams like England need to chill out.

The media have had their daggers sharpened since the KP texting SA team. He won't retire anyway, and should stay on until after the 2015 ashes. He's still our best bat by far. 33 is too young for him to walk away. Panesar is only being targeted by the The daily mirror. They've had issues with him for a number of months, going back as far as August. As far as Monty goes, I think his time is up. Give this Borthwick kid the time to show what he can do. He might be a dud but Monty is an average bowler who can't bat or field.

What you guys seem to be implying is that us English are xenophobic and racist, let's be honest. KP served the England team well. Let's not forget though, if it weren't for England, he wouldn't be playing cricket at all. SA don't need him. He's worked hard for what he got but England gave him the opportunity.

If England hadn't accepted him, he could have still gone to aus or NZ. Aus wouldn't have taken him on. They still had their greats at the time. Unless KP was prepared to wait for 28 years of age. NZ might have taken him on but what success he'd have had really? Maybe ODI's that's it. You do realise KP get's paid a lot of money playing cricket for us right? He don't do it for charity.

England did/ and have needed him, I never said otherwise. But he needed England also. Don't kid yourself he'd have got anywhere near Australia's team. They rarely pick players not born in Australia. NZ play like 5 tests a year, and no way would they pay KP as well as the ECB have done. And he wouldn't have achieved anywhere near as much success. SA don't need him at test level. He might have gotten in their ODI team and 20/20. So all in all he's done well for himself paying for England. He has worked hard for it to be fair to him.

Just because we don't hero worship our batsmen like you Indians do. You guys worship Tendulkur 5 years after he was past it. In England we don't care what you did in the past. " What have you done for me lately?". And KP's not done alot lately. Likewise neither has Swann ( he retired) or prior or Trott. And all of those may never play for England again. He's been treated well in England. And all this nonsense that Cook hasn't been attacked, his captaincy has been slaughtered in this series. KP is our best batmen though. That's why he comes under greater scrutiny when he doesn't perform.
