Shardul has the pace for top level: Zaheer Khan

I have already mentioned that he lacks stamina right now. He is just starting out and will improve and is still only 22. Even I was not impressed much last year as he was pretty overweight to be a fast bowler and was bowling high 120s to low 130s, but this season, he is much leaner and quicker, has worked on his action too. He is still has a long way to go and improve but signs are there. Regarding Zak has not played much with Javed, last season, Zak played full season with Javed and even in this season.
he was injured most of last season and played 3 games Kulkarni took on role of spearhead. This season fair enough he is playing his 5th match. I think at max Zaheer must have played 7-8 games with JJ khan.

He certainly has been a revelation this year after he looked fat last year and was not that quick. This year with a fitter self' date=' his pace was also up and has a natural outswinger and did reverse big against Karnataka. Though still needs to improve a lot.[/quote'] But 140+ ? really:omg:

You can barely guess pace of a bowler watching in a stadium. I saw him live on speed guns and I am making things up.
umm actually you can gauge the pace in the stadium better than based on speed guns. In the mumbai v odisha game after the ball reached Marathe on the bounce he stood upto the stumps for Shadul for the last two overs he bowled of the 15 on the last day. Does that sound like the action of a person bowling fast? :giggle: Why dont you post snap shots of the speed gun on thakur. I dont think Mumbai's matches have been telecast much. Only 2 odd games. One was supposed to be broadcast (mumbai v delhi) but was moved.

As I already said that he lacks the stamina to sustain pace for long right now. I saw him in two games. Last was Mumbai vs Karnataka where he was really impressive in first innings. He is the pick of the Mumbai pacers his season though still has a long way to go. javed khan on the other hand looks so ordinary. i watched him on the ground and he would just trundle to the crease and just put the ball there on spot. Thing is in ranjis these bowlers get used in long spells of 7-8 overs on flat pitches so there is no motivation to give your all in. even on grassy pitches there is not much bounce so again it is about accuracy

"He has the pace required for top level" Please note this trundler fans and dhobi
:hysterical: Do you realize that you are quoting someone who is among India’s top 2-3 pace bowlers of all time, who almost all of the time bowls fast medium? (130-135 kph) If you have not understood this already, let me make it clear one more time – Nobody resents genuine pace. Why would we? What is comically immature is the sheer infatuation some of you guys have with speed, often times at the expense of skill. Speed without skill is utterly useless – Ask Mohammed Sami, Monantu Hayward, Darren Powell etc. A lot of guys can bowl fast, but speed alone does not get you success against international class batsmen.

^ True. It's what Mohd. Asif and Philander have also shown. Bowl around 82-84 mph and that will suffice provided that you have exemplary control over line-length and swing.

I think the big question is how many philanders are there in world cricket? Ie bowlers in the same pace range who have been successful in recent times? The fact is Philander is the only bowler in that pace range to be in the top ICC test rankings as a pace bowler. The rankings currently read Philander Steyn Harris Siddle Johnson Boult Broad Morkel Southee Barring Philander most of the guys usually are 135 and above. Ie they operate in the 85-90mph zone. Three of these guys Steyn, Johnson and Boult operate usually in the 140-150 range. So what we can take from the list above is you realistically need to be bowling in the 135 to 140 bracket and have control to be successful in todays world cricket. Its like saying Malcolm Marshall was 5 foot 9 and dangerous. But he was more of an exception in the list of fast bowlers who have been 6 foot and above and are legends. So India needs to search for bowlers who are 6 foot plus who bowl 135 and above and have good control.

No man lol we should not define physical attributes and search for players that fit the description. We are not searching for hero to play harry potter role. Short, tall, medium height, bulk, lean whatever.. we need wicket taking bowlers. Don't care how they get. We cannot define certain parameters and expect everyone to fit that. That is sh**Y pipe dream. Tremlet is built like a rock. But bowls slower than Vinay Kumar. Give me wickets.. don't care even if you bowl at 10 mile per hour. If you don't take wickets.. make way . Because we have wicekt taking bowlers at all speeds, we have poor bowlers at all speeds, we have short wicekt taking bowler, tall wicekt taking bowler, poor bowlers who are tall and short. They come in all sizes. We have genuine pacers who suck we have slow bowlers who do well.. and vice versa. Just get wickets for us. That is all we need.

As I said' date=' he right now lacks stamina to last his pace for long. He will get that as he bowls more. I saw him on TV with speed guns at Wankhede and I am not assuming or making things out. Zaheer is not saying this thing for nothing. He could have said the same for Javed Khan too but he did not. [b']He bowled up to 142K this season and consistently around 135-136K even Kulkarni has never clocked this pace in Ranji trophy.
Shardul's fastest speed was specifically shown on tv. It was almost 142 k. 141.8 k to be precise. There is no doubt about this fact.

I dont think its asking for much to say select bowlers who are 6 feet and above. Its hardly as if i am saying India need 6 foot 5 bowlers. 70% of existing ranji pacers are probably at that height.

It is true, guys like Philander, McGrath and Stuart Clarke – bowlers who bowl sub 135 and yet have distinguished records - don’t come along too often. But that does not mean anyone who has the capability to bowl the odd one over 140 is an automatic shoo-in for the indian side. When I see statements like ‘Varun Aaron is a must for the indian team because he can bowl 140+…’, I am like ‘Nooooooo…! He not a very good bowler.. His body is as fragile as a toddler’s bone and he has very suspect temperament for a international class fast bowler.. he is only going to get whooped more if he plays and it will destroy his confidence even more….he is not ready for international cricket yet..’ Why do you guys think the English didn’t play Steve Finn in the Ashes at all, despite him being far away their quickest bowler? Because he’s in sh!tty form right now that’s why.. the Aussie boys would have feasted on his erratic stuff and Eng would lost the Ashes even faster.. Speed is good, speed is great even.. it is a great pre-requisite to have for a fast bowler.. but what matters more at the international level is skill and temperament. You can bully batsmen with 88 mph at FC level, but once you play with ‘em big boys, they will feast on anything that is fast and inaccurate.

Wicket taking bowlers are what we need. If we are talking about tests then almost all wicket taking pacers have been either fast or fast-medium. Slower seamers, bowling in the 120s , even before they have gathered tons of experience and have become greats , have never succeeded. So, it would not be a bad policy to exclude them atleast.

Sri Lanka today had 3 bowlers capable of hitting 144kmph, can't remember the last time India had such an attack or even if there was ever such an attack for India. Regarding Shardul, he can bat a bit too, if he becomes a bowler who takes regar wickets without reducing his pace, he will be an asset. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you use that parameter you could miss an outstanding bowler below 6 . Steyn is below 6. Ryan harris 5'11" . That is gross injustice to bowlers who are below 6. That is a strict no no parameter to pick bowlers. Ishant is a stellar example of being tall and crappy.
