Those players got the chances won nearly everything they played last year. They lose 4 matches and we want half the side to be changed? Chasing 290+ match after match irrespective of batting conditions is not easy. Openers will fail at some stage and the team will lose. SA ODI series was an aberration as the team hardly got any time to adapt before the ODIs began. NZ series has started to become a concern now but lets not press the panic button so soon. Current top 6 at their positions is what we should stick to now. Strengthen the lower order batting by having Binny ahead of Ashwin and rest Ishant for Aaron.

Rahane for example has always opened for mumbai in the limited formats. so thats two players your playing out of their natural position.

saneindian Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 The best ODI cricket Rohit has played has been as an opener. Both him and Dhawan are settled now and have done fairly well. Why do we need so much tinkering with the batting order? Rahane now has a clear run at 4 in this series. Changing that midway will totally confuse the player on his role. Too much of a over reaction IMO. Show faith in the openers who have done well since starting together in CT.

I am the last person to call Rohit as Nohit, as people do here as I hate name calling, I just believe, we have better opener waiting outside like Gambhir. Gambhir was a gun player who had bad run in test and was dropped from all the formats. He still averages 40 after being switched from middle order to top order. You can call him "pokemon" or whatever crap, but he will delivery like Dravid when team needs him. This is what we need in our team. I am Indian first and then I am a Kohli fan or someone else. I want INdia to win and for that, I want best players and for that if Kohli is sucking for long time, I will support him to an extent and would then want him to be replaced or change his order or do something so that team can find it's way to get back on track. I still believe Rohit is good, but there are some better cricketers who can be given chance. Just like we want Ishant to be dropped for other bats to be given chance, same can be said for our batsmen.

He played that gem knock for us in world cup final by comin up under pressure. Best average in the team by far, he needs to move himself up. I don't mind even some new youngsters have to face the wrath of it, or might miss out on chance, we got to have our best bats batting up in the order instead of waiting for them to be finisher all the time. Ideally Dhoni should be coming right after Kohli at no. 4

I think he will do a pretty good job opening & should solve the no7 position . we do need a better bat than jadeja at seven , since its a given that we will be chasing big totals often.

On you point about Gambhir, after scoring 1000+ runs in a calendar year, was Gambhir dropped for a loss of form in 5-6 matches?
