"I do like to play the one-day format. Especially with the 2015 World Cup coming up, I hope I get a chance to play in that team. As a cricketer, everybody dreams to play the World Cup for Team India," Pujara said. "...when I was playing one of the Ranji games, India won the 2011 World Cup and we all were following the game. We felt really proud on India winning the World Cup," he said. Pujara, who will next be seen in action during the two-match Test series in New Zealand next month, said he is working hard to break into ODI squad. "...when you have the opportunity of serving the country and be part of the team it will be a different feeling. And there are a few things I am working to be part of the one-day team," he said. On the challenge in New Zealand tour after his success in South Africa, Pujara said it would be comparatively easier to perform in the upcoming tour. "It will be difficult challenge, but the kind of performance I have had in South Africa has changed my mindset and I am a different cricketer now," he said. "Because once you score runs in overseas conditions and face bowlers like Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander means a lot...I do believe that South African conditions are the most difficult in the cricketing circuit. I think going to New Zealand and playing there might be a little easier," he added. Pujara said in the coming year, he would look to perform well in the overseas assignments. "...there are so many overseas tours coming up, and we want to win all of them, that is the target. What everyone can expect from Team India is the fight which we showed in the South Africa tour. If that is there we have the best opportunity of winning matches in overseas conditions," he said.
Pagalpanti Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I just don't see Rahane and Pujara in the same line up, it has to be either one of them. Dhawan, Rohit have settled well into the opening role while Kohli is immovable at 3. Rahane will audition for the no.4 spot and will be given a fair few games. While Dhoni and Raina take on the role of finishing at 5/6. Even if Raina fails, Rayudu seems the better prospect given his hitting ability. Pujara could be a back-up option if Rahane doesn't click.

Though his addition will solidify our batting order, it is hard to expect whether he would join the other guys who like to go at frantic pace on dead pitches. Dravid like conundrum. But his era was slightly different. NOwadays slog overs begin at 30th over itself.

Pujara can be an option[/quote'] If he develops pokemon tendencies. that would be an ultimate disaster. Hope he plays judiciously. Most of the tracks even outside INdia are falt pitches. We won't get surfaces like SA pitches as they were made to order to bully India.

We won't get surfaces like SA pitches as they were made to order to bully India. u are right but when we travel to these countries like saf,aus they mostly prepare green/bouncy tracks to negate our batsmen in odis,we were a big failure in odis in aus in 2012 as well.we got out under 200 thrice against them!! so its better if india have a consolidator like pujara along with dhoni and kohli who can fight on. 1st and foremost india have to play the best pacers to pick 10 wkts and not just look to restrict them

We just can't otherwise we will have SA ODI type result.. Put Pujara in place of Yuvi.. And also put Rahane in place of Dhawan if he fails in next two foreign tours.

Not one of those guys.[/quote'] i like clarity ..south africa is most difficult and new zealand much easier and him saying it does not makes him complacement he even went on a tour after being best indian batsman and still scored runs he is not the type to have these kinds of problems

Ram Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Pujara can be like one of the unexpected ODI successes, in the mould of guys like Trott, Amla, Cook, Strauss (later in his career) etc. Howeve,he does have some major hurdles to cross - For starters, he does not a "power-game" or in a more abject terms, he's not a six hitter. If we need 50 off the last 5 chasing 320, does Pujara a) have the temperament to finish the game off and b) even if he did, does have the phyical abiltiy to force the pace? Given that the first three slots in our batting order is locked up for a while, there's a very good chance that Pujara - if included in the side - is likely to bat more often in the 2nd half of the innings than the first. In those instances, we need a power hitter who can be cool under pressure. Dunno if Pujara fits the bill. Plus, he may not a liability on the field, but he isnt the most nimble either. That's a problem for him because he does not bowl. Remember MSD's yardstick for ODI inclusion - If you are batsmen, you should either be an excellent fielder or part-time bowler. If you are bowler, you should not be a total liability on the field. The whole reason why guys like Sehwag and Gambhir got dropped from the side was because of the fact they were liabilities on the field.
G_B_ Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 every team does need a Pujrara though. So long as he can maintain a strike rate say batting at 3 of more than 80 he should be fine.
