"I have made a few mistakes early on that I admit myself and there have been times when I have gone over the top and done things that you shouldn't do in international cricket, but that's how you learn," Kohli said. The 25-year-old, admired for his stupendous batting achievements but criticised for being too aggressive in confrontational situations, said he has matured quite a bit. "In the last game, the bowler gave me a stare and I gave him a stare back. I didn't say anything. I have realised it is important to make your presence felt but it doesn't always have to be with words. It can be with your bat," Kohli said referring to the opening ODI against New Zealand in which he scored a fine hundred albeit in a losing cause. "I know now that the opposition wants to get me out, that's why they are going to try to rattle me and try to get me into a fight but that gives me one more reason not to get out. So I pretty much like a battle but I have realised the use of words is not necessary all the time and I'd rather let my bat do the talking now," he added. Asked about the changed approach, Kohli said he is evolving and learning to be more composed. "People have to realise I am not 21 anymore. I am growing up. I am not that immature that I don't know where to control my aggression. Obviously if I wasn't able to control my aggression, I would be nowhere. My career would have been over before it started," he said.

At some point, he is going to begin to falter and become mortal again. Every time i thought he was going to miss a ball, his bat came out of nowhere to connect :cantstop: That has been the story for Kohli recently. Much like Sunil gavsakar's whips right from the middle stump. You would think ball would knock the middle stump. But his bat would come down at the right time. It is the same feeling with kohli. The day when he is microseconds, milliseconds late he could find his slump. Rightnow we just have to sit and appreciate the genius of Kohli.

In his prime ponting was better in tests But man they are very comparable please don't be fooled by how bad ponting played swing at end of career. He only had problem at start of inning playing towards leg side otherwise swing was not a big problem as his record in England and South Africa tells you but of course he was awful a against spin for most part on dry tracks

He was tag man but Kohli is better player of spin easily mystery or normal

Virat is yet to hit his prime , at a similar age I think he is a far superior player than Ponting was.

People will find kohli's weakness and it will be same but ponting once set use to score match winning hundreds ...big ones Kohli still has not some that Punter had 3 outstanding back to back years. Yeah but it's cos he is still very new also another reason why I think comparisons are premature His style is like ponting which is a compliment not actual comparison of stature IMO Ponting was bloody good too at one point people rated hi ahead of tendulkar and that says a lot

Tendulkar was probabaly an exception , The Likes of Ponting and Dravid hit a purple patch for 3-4 years . With Virat I have said a million times before , that maturity for his age is unseen . He could have a good 5-6 years of 60+ avg .

For instance in 1993 Tendulkar was literally toying with England bowling. He could have scored easily some 700 runs in that series. But he didn't convert at all . Highest was 165 where England bowlers were begging for mercy. He could have easily made 250 there. Hope Kohli starts scoring big early in his career.
