:WTF: Granted these countries aren't happy hunting grounds for spinners but that is still shocking. Raises a few questions - Why hasn't he been dropped ? Why such a big discrepancy between his home and away performance ? Is this guy really a viable option as your front line spinner if he is this abysmal away from home ? And the biggest question is shouldn't a country where spin is so relevant be producing more world class spinners ?

I understand that Dhoni feels he is economical compared to his other options ... but when he and Jadeja don't pick up wickets your fast bowlers are always gonna get whacked at the death. You need to be picking up wickets in the middle overs.

i have always thought India should try out Shabaaz Nadeem. Ashwin started of as a T20 bowler but is now a home test bowler.

This guys talks a lot but not sure if he sits and thinks about his bowling. His variations are very easy to pick, his stock ball doesnt turn much and he has just not shown any signs of evolving as a decent bowler outside subcontinent. Bhajji for all the noises he made was definitely more talented than Ashwin. I still cannot believe that he actually said he got all his plans working in the ODIs against SA where he did not even pick a single wicket. Only if someone admits that there is something wrong will he ever improve but Ashwin thinks there is nothing wrong with his bowling. Its time India look for other spin options than Ashwin, i just dont see him picking a single wicket outside the subcontinent.

He needs to go back to domestics, as does raina (can still be part of t20 wc), ishant, and rohit. Mishra is a better wicket taker imo. He hasn't even been given chances, and he got 18-19 wickets in his last series. Let him have a few series and then decide if he stays. Other options: rasool, rahul sharma, karan sharma, nadeem, harmeet singh, ojha, bhaji

His stock ball is a slightly overpitched ball with zero flight and aimed towards the leg stump. Sometimes for variation it is pitched towards the middle stump. The batsmen find it super easy to push the ball towards leg for a single or a two. His bowling is completely harmless. The batsman is never forced to step back suddenly to defend his stumps. You often see this happening when Graeme Swann is bowling. Why, even J.P.Duminy was recently making our batsmen play watchfully. With Ashwin batsmen relax and milk him for runs. Very rarely does he bowl a dot ball.

He has been terrible. As bad as bhajji when all bhajji was bowling was his darts...We really have no bowlers to replace not just him. Ojha and Mishra are too wayward.Even with that, Ashwin has to be dropped sooner rather than later with Ishant. Otherwise we are going to the World cup with just One and a half bowlers.

Mishra is worse. Need to see Karn Sharma or bring back Rahul Sharma. Don't know why was he dropped. Akalpit

Ashwin is a good spinner. Has a really good straighter one. I think he's become complacent after taking bucket full of wickets against Windies and NZ and Aussies at home, all weak players of spin... He needs to improve on spinless tracks too.

Not dropped? Lost his Test spot to Jadeja in the 2nd test vs SA. And should now be very close to losing his ODI spot as well. Has become too defensive in his approach and as usual tries to do too many variations.

You cannot be defensive and just try to contain during 15-35 overs because if you do not get wickets in these overs, you will pay for that in last 15 overs and your containment will do zilch.
