mancalledsting Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 good question and one the indian journalists should be asking ' date='BCCI is corrupt(just look at the state of old stadiums),this is the problem with indian journalism at large, they are more prone to search for headlines than asking the right questions and following through on them.[/quote'] Exactly
Zap_Brannigan Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Doesnt BCCI put out its financial report in public. I dont for one second believe that BCCI is not corrupt but they have put the money to very good use. IIRC, 25% of the money goes back to the players. Our International players are paid about the same as English and Australian cricketers and our ranji players make more than some International players. IPL also gives players 10 times more than what they get from International games and that wealth was spread to the older players who didnt have very good pay when they were playing. Our grounds have improved a lot too. BCCI also has 600 million $ in surplus.

BCCI has given money to someone who has played for india but moved to pakistan as well.
mancalledsting Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 How dumb is this? A pension fund for ex players at the expense of developing future players from other countries.
gattaca Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 How dumb is this? They need to start to own their own mess.
Zap_Brannigan Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 How dumb is this? A pension fund for ex players at the expense of developing future players from other countries. Not as dumb as Board of Control of Cricket in India giving its money to Pakistan and New zealand. The older players spread the game in India and has atleast played a part why cricket survived and became a huge money spinner in India. Thats the main job of BCCI. Its not to spread its money to poorer cricket boards. Maybe PCB and NZC should get off their ass and spread the game in their respective country without just depending on Indian viewership.
veer Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 How dumb is this? A pension fund for ex players at the expense of developing future players from other countries. If I were a nationalist, this is not a bad idea for me..

So you know exactly what all the boards do? Well obviously since you're so smart, you just should run if NZC and PCB because obviously you think it is just that simple. Since you also you know how the revenue sharing of the ICC works as well since apparently India is giving money away.... This isn't trading, this is sport where parity needs to be met. You can't have sport where one country gets so much more than majority of the others. It is not viable for the future of the sport. If India really wants to put the interests of cricket first, then they should if anything try not to claim more money, yes they are the biggest earners because that's like the only sport that India cares for with its 1.2 billion people that don't give a hoot about other sports as a majority. I don't know why people think that there should be a gulf in earnings in sport, this isn't a pure and pure business, this is sport.
mancalledsting Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Isn't it a given that all cricket boards will try to spend money to further viewership and fanbase in their own countries. Wasn't that the intention of the BPL and SLPL CPL etc? What more do you want from these countries.....to encourage 7 children per household so that their population matches India's? Doesn't BCCI have many other opportunities to raise cash outside the ICC current framework? I thought we were the richest board in the world- so obviously we must still be making more money than other boards.

If the money generated by Indian viewers to follow Indian cricket is what BCCI is supposed to earn (which i think it is), then yes, India is giving money away. I dont want to waste time again to explain this. This is sport. But everything is a barter system. I pay sky ( to watch Indian cricket team on TV), to ICC ( when i paid for my tickets for champions trophy) etc...I pay money for my entertainment. Majority of the cricket viewing population pay to watch Indian cricket team. So yeah, this is also a business. Otherwise, shouldnt (for example) england take a pay hit and have sold their rights to BBC (which is free if you exempt the TV tax in UK) instead of sky. Now i have to pay 50 pounds to sky every month to watch Indian cricket matches. If you are so keen to say its just sports and not business, then why am i paying to watch cricket?

Give me a break- their huge revenue is solely a consequence of our billion plus population (meaning huge tv and advertising revenues),lack of other viable competitor sports in India and stars like Kapil Dev, Sachin and sunny G. Nothing to do with their genius marketing. That's like saying Arabs are marketing geniuses for selling so much oil in their countries .

How would BCCI do if they give TV rights at cheap rates to some channels related to some politician?
mancalledsting Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 And you believe that other boards are getting good contracts (if not huge ones like BCCI gets) because of less population? How would BCCI do if they give TV rights at cheap rates to some channels related to some politician? So every national board apart from the moral and ethical centres of excellence in India, Aus and England have even selling tv rights cheaply to their politician uncle? Individual offences should be stamped out on a case by case basis by establishing systems of accountability and not be countered with a blanket oppressive counter solution.
The Outsider Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 And you believe that other boards are getting good contracts (if not huge ones like BCCI gets) because of less population? How would BCCI do if they give TV rights at cheap rates to some channels related to some politician? That is where the ICC should enter and penalize boards with such dealings, not create a monopoly - a crappy one at that, from a team which struggles to put bat to ball or ball to wicket away from home.
devla Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 The money is generated in India should stay in India for Indian cricket. Money generated abroad can stay abroad. Traveling team gets tour royalty, percentage agreed by the boards. If revenue is generated on account of an ICC tournament, gate revenue goes to local board, ICC gets the sponsorship money, ICC pays for all participating team costs including travel, boarding, incidentals, prize money, sponsor tickets, etc. Each board has a choice to participate pr not participate, depending on local boards own schedule. Then, market forces will figure out who wants to do what. Baseball or NFL isn't dead even if it's only played in 1 country. NHL is the best in the US with players coming from as Far East as Russia. Anyone who says they know what is in the larger interest of a game is either stupid or extremely dishonest. The innocence of international cricket died a long time. Now it's innocence lies on the streets, beaches and backyards. The rest is hogwash.
AnkurUpadhyay Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Everyone must understand that India also has the largest domestic circuit in cricketing world.BCCI not only earn the most revenue but we also have to spend the most (by a fair distance) on its domestic circuit and infrastructure. We have millions of young players to support. We definitely need more money than say New Zealand, Pakistan or West Indies. On top of that India earn more than 80% of revenue to the ICC. I don't think that BCCI is doing anything wrong by asking for larger share in ICC''s revenue.
