Yes dhoni is right...its all in mind...he wants to change minds of raina,ishant,nohit,ashwin,jaddu....but he needs to change his mind first..

People who are defending him are not realizing two facts his utter ineptness away from sub continent and also most of those matches he played when Indian team played with six batsmen plus Dhoni. Now this Indian plays with just five batsmen and dhoni. If Raina is one of those five batsmen then he has bat well in all conditions and bat big. When playing with six batsmen he could get away with 20s and 30s but not anymore.

In subcontinent our side is strong with 7 batsmen. Outside we are weak with just 2 batsmen.

Surely we are not playing the numbers game, are we? I think it has been quite well established that, unless you a genius, out-of-the-world LOI batsmen like MSD or Bevan, it is incredibly unreasonable to judge a lower middle order batsmen just by sheer numbers. These guys come into bat in exceptionally tough circumstances. They should be measured by the impact they have on the game and not by the absolutely volume of runs they scored. Take for example the 2nd ODI. Raina scored 35 off 22 balls. That is not bad at all, if you ask me. Obviously, as a veteran, he should have stayed at the crease for longer and finished the game for us, but this conversation about Raina would not even be happening if MSD/Kohli successfully completed the case. Fact of the matter is this The lower middle in ODIs is probably the hardest batting job in the world, apart from maybe opening in tests. It is a thankless job where the guys are almost always under added-pressure situations to deliver. And because the fans attention is so riveted during the closing stages of the game, any failure will have a higher profile too. We have to give Raina a chance to go thru a lean patch, he absolutely deserves it!

Wow. Lean patch ? Yes we shouldn't look at the numbers but should we also shut out our eyes to the fact that he is a sitting duck against shot ball.
