He could have quit. Hey why would he pass up such a big offer. If Conan had shown numbers he would not have been replaced. So it was purely NBC's call.

Playing to the ratings, of course some will find him funny and show kept it's core audience. He may have been good earlier, but once the show was controlled by ratings, it was played out one too many years. I stopped watching it about 2 years and none after the COnan fiasco. Why the hell did NBC bring him back and why are they getting rid of him after having paid Conan for contract breaking.

He gave a vibe that he was trying too hard to be funny. I used to watch Leno long back. Infact i quit watching any late night shows. except Jon Stewart. Even that i can catch online.

Leno's numbers went down as well when he moved to 8pm as well, 3+ hrs of daily shows from 8PM wasnt a smart move. Conan had a choice to either quit or force Jimmy Fallon to an even later spot and he refused to do that. Jeno should have quit then and he didnt, even though he originally had said the would quit after Conan takes over.

Personally, I never found his show funny but to the man's credit he lasted for 22 years. Letterman, Fallon, Kimmel, Stewart and Colbert are funnier.
