CA made one big mistake by getting in a mickey arthur. They also recognised it. Team looked completely down and out for the count during the last tour of India. 2 weeks before the ashes in England they sacked Arthur and appointed Lehman. Bold move. At the risk of jeopardising the entire series, they took a decision. Australia played better than the 3-0 score line. But it was a happier dressing room Then the ODI series in India. Johnson seemed to have got his mojo back in IPL and India series. CA got him back before the last and decider match of the series to be ready for the ashes. Again inspired decision. Australia whitewashes England. However, that still does not solve the issues of batting which CA knows could be found out in SA. They select Doolan who doesn't have the greatest domestic record in the world, but they senses that he is the right guy. Doolan comes in, plays to important knocks in the first test and takes two great catches. Inspired selection to get Shaun marsh back in the line up, who scores a 100 in 1st innings to set the game up. Just saying that not a lot has changed in 1 year. It is just the cricketing sense and courage of decision makers that has triggered or supported revival of this Australian team. We keep getting whitewashed series after series and I see nothing happening.

But I am not sure if India's problems can be simply solved by coach. There is BCCI interference. Players distracted. IPL. Media. The whole package is difficult.

Australia is the most successful cricketing nation on the planet - highest Test win/loss ratio, four World Cups. By contrast India are seventh out of eight competitive teams in Test cricket. Away from home we are absolutely pathetic. Aus have produced some of the most fearsome bowlers ever. In our country a guy like Zaheer, who would struggle to make it to most Aussie teams with his average of 33, is hailed as a superstar. Not hating on Zaheer here, but he is an adequate bowler at best at the highest level but for us he is the second most successful seamer in a population of 1 billion people. For India to become a dominant Test team will require wholesale changes to the cricket structure. But our primary goal is to make as much cash as is humanly possible out of tamasha IPL. With that goal in mind, India will continued to be tossed around like a ***** in Test cricket with impotent bowlers who nobody fears.

Somehow former left handed top order batsmen have worked pretty well for us as coaches

Pagalpanti Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 We need a proper bowling coach more than anything. Tbh our batting post 0-8 era away has been on the rise. This young unit held up well in SA and is going to win the first overseas test in a long time on a green pitch. Its the bowlers that have always lost us games. Hire someone like Waqar/Donald/Lee. Make our bowlers look for wickets rather then settling for line+length bowling. Even NZ bowling is on the rise after they hired Donald and now Bond.

We have a chairman who is corrupt to the core plus for him winning at home is more important than winning at overseas as he believes that home team is always stronger.The ACB and ECB are run more professionally than the BCCi. Bring in Pattinson for his pace and hasn't played a test for a while 3.Remove Marsh who played the innings to win the first test And did I mention, selecting Warner as opener. Whoever did that couple of years back, really took a very risky decision. Needless to say it has paid off.

At the end of the day it appears that the team batting first won.
