Pagalpanti Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Like someone said earlier Ashwin is the one who can play the role of an A/R. He has a great technique with the bat. Also he bats at brisk pace which makes him a perfect fit at no.6 given his experience with batting amongst tail will also come in handy. He has to improve his bowling though, cant just play a holding role.

If that is what a no 8 batsmen is required to do then we have different expectations from no 8 who is in the team as holding bowler. Ability to stay at the crease for longer period of time is required by no 8 by almost every good team. their no.8 scored a ton in first Test? Anyway Neesham is too good for no.8.he'd bat higher in future.maybe at 6. but you can't expect a normal no.8 to win you matches with 100+ required.that rarely happens if at all. his bowling this series has been poor no doubt as hes expected to take wickets too.
putrevus Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I don't think you need to fill the team with bits and pieces players like Ashwin or Jadeja.They never will be able to command the place in the team on either batting or bowling alone. You need to find bowlers who are better rather than taking this route.

Yeh shayar to ek line hi repeat kar raha hai ki kuuta chada munder pe. Par is sher me kuch wazan nahi hai." The chap nexxt to him gets royally anoyed and slapping him hard across the face says "BKL wazan ko maar goli, kutton ka balance to dekh".

If he can average around 25+ in test cricket with the bat and 32-33 with the ball , that is more than enough IMO. With more test experience he should start contributing more regularly with the bat instead of trying to hit every ball, but that will happen with time.

Also their regular number 8 is Southee just to be clear, plays exactly the same way as Jadeja.

Dont know why you are cursing him well then let him be extra outfielder and come in to replace all other 9 players and as you said Southie also plays like that for NZ well if Jadeja picked up as many wickets as Southie then he can get out after 10 balls at crease. The problem is jadeja is not good enough to be in the team as a bowler alone so his batting and fielding have to be far greater than guy like Southie.

He was the third highest wicket taker in ODIs in 2013 and was highest wicket taker in Champions Trophy and crucial in winning the tournament. Took 24 wickets in 4 tests against Australia at an average of 17. Took 6 wickets in an innings in Durban test.

Took 6 wickets in an innings in Durban test. why are you bringing odis here, we are talking about overseas test matches and if Jadeja is good enough to be no 8. In India unless team want play three spinners on turning tracks he will not find a place in the team with 2 plus 2 option. FYI if Jadeja is no8 in odis Indian team will be in great shape.
