Malay Online has a decent coverage on this issue. Latest: Last words likely from MH370 co-pilot, says MAS CEO

Hishammuddin also said at today’s news conference that the authorities are looking into the possibility that either Fariq or MH370’s main pilot, Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, may have tried to commit suicide.
CNN and the likes are continuing to churn out theories likely under the guise of "highly confidential and anonymous sources":
Whoever was flying the airplane may have flown below 5,000 feet and used mountainous terrain as cover to avoid being detected by radar, the New Straits Times newspaper in Malaysia reported Monday, citing unnamed sources. CNN could not immediately confirm the newspaper's account, which is just one of several as-yet unproven theories about what happened to the jetliner after its last contact with flight controllers.
However, military radars cover from the ground up, if I am not wrong Kazakhstan says detected no unidentified planes when Malaysian jetliner vanished In the meantime, the focus is on the southern corridor: Search for Malaysia Airlines Jet Bolstered Off Australian Coast

Since the pilots are under suspicion - suicide, insurance money to family, etc., is it possible that the pilots managed to fool the hijackers and preferred to dump the plane in to the ocean than hitting a specific target? Some facts: * The pilots did not ask to fly together (unless something happened in the background, a deeper conspiracy) * The co-pilot was about to get married to a long time friend * The captain had a big family, was well off and a flying enthusiast * While the transponder could be turned off in the cockpit, the ACARS needed to be disabled by going to a specific area (can't remember where) on the plane Let's look at these scenario (I don't have the exact timeline in front of me): ACARS is disabled 1st * The pilot goes out and disables the ACARS. If the crew asks what is happening, he simply says he is checking something * Comes back to the cockpit and then turns off the transponder (the other pilot is killed or probably just leaves the cockpit for some reason and the cockpit doors get locked) * The pilot has total control of the plane * May have depressurized the plane and killed others Transponder is disabled 1st * After "All right, Good night", switches off the transponder and kills the other pilot * The plane is diverted to west * The plane is depressurized (by pressing some button) to kill the crew and passengers * Puts the plane on autopilot, goes out of the cockpit and disables the ACARS Too tough an assignment to pull off by a single person unnoticed. But it was a red-eye flight On the other hand - assuming that the plane is hijacked by some group. The pilots are given specific instructions. Crew and passengers are under control of the hijackers. Pilots give hijackers the impression that they are following orders. Realizing what happened during 9/11, they decide to fool hijackers and dump the plane in to ocean Perplexing situation but evil

Who writes these articles? Things to consider: a) Plane had fuel for approx. 3000 miles - Tehran is 3700 miles from KL (from the article) b) There are regimes that will happily sacrifice a plane to attack Israel - so why fly all the way from Malaysia c) Even if something like that is attempted, Israel will happily shoot an unidentified aircraft down The 777 would have been useful to attack when it was first hijacked. Now w/ even the lazy countries knowing about it, an unidentified aircraft will most likely be shot down

yep ' date='that's the most baffling part .It should remain on all the time.[/quote'] pilot should be able to disable all electronics in case of fire alert but i bet they will now rethink this.they need a GPS or some other system maybe something mounted on the plane which can tell the planes exact position at al times with its own power source.

Fox news has similar theory but they are assuming that the plan either landed in Indonesia or in Pakistan.
Well if it's Fox News then its gotta be true :fear: Couple of things people dont seem to be considering about a plane flying low enough to avoid radar - 1. People on the ground would notice it 2. Drastically decreased range because of higher air resistance low to the ground as opposed to 35,000 feet. These theories of the plane somehow making it to South Asia and beyond are clownish.

It has been a free for all mindless speculation contest since the malaysian PM's press conference. WSJ and to an extent abcnews were the ones releasing daily updates last week. I think that has stopped; i have not seen substantial from WSJ after the press conference. Since then countries have been pulling out SAR teams and the media coverage has been :haha:

Not only its very unlikely due to the risk of getting caught or being shot down, but the plane didnt even have enough fuel to make it to Pakistan. Plus its not like air traffic controllers get to see the photo of plane to see the company logo and let the plane land or fly into a country's airspace. Its a typical fox news story that is baseless, stupid and has the word nukes in it.
