EnterTheVoid Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I have long been fascinated by the city of Hiroshima and today, I got the opportunity to go there. Hiroshima has the dubious distinction of being the first city to have an atomic bomb dropped on it. Two atomic bombs were dropped on Japan, one in Hiroshima, the other in Nagasaki, both by the United States, both during World War 2. You think having an atomic bomb dropped on it would make it completely desolate and unliveable. Not so. Hiroshima is as beautiful as any other city in Japan if not THE most beautiful. Hiroshima is connected to other Japanese cities via a high speed rail network. Speed, punctuality and efficiency are paramount. Here is the Shinkansen (bullet train) I rode to get to Hiroshima this afternoon: When the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, it completely decimated the city within a set radius. Many died from the initial blast, many died later from radiation poisoning. Nope, not in Hiroshima. Hiroshima is perfectly safe to live. I dare say Hiroshima is my favourite city in Japan. I say that after covering some seven odd cities - Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Himeji, Kobe, Takayama, Shinakawa, ***ushima - during this trip.
