Marut Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Imran had his team very strong though due various other reasons at home so did Dhoni. Imran getting credit for drawing test series Wi in 1988 he retired in 1987 once already is ridiculous.wtf now we give credit to draw the series also.. Imran at his peak never won world cup, he just was hanging on his last legs. As he and pakistan got very lucky in 1992 world cup. Dhoni won at home in grand fashion. Dhoni will go down as second best Wk batsmen and the most successful odi captain of his era. If Imran was so great what was he doing in all previous world cups .he was an average captain at his best tactically so is dhoni. Winning a match and drawing a series against Richards, Greenidge, Marshall, Ambrose, Walsh et al is far more difficult than winning a world cup. No team other than Imran's Pakistan has won a single match in the WI in all of the 80s. Normally, teams that visited WI used to be mained and brutallly humiliated, but Pakistan under Imran put up a fight that was unparalled in the 80s.

velu Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 53 matches .. won 26 , lost 14 48 matches .. won 14 , lost 8 pick the kaaptain you want..
adi B Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Neither. Both are a bit stubborn. Neither of them are tactically good. Pakistan despite who leades be it is Imran or Akhtar or Afridi it is all about individual brilliance. You could call Imran a leader who managed to get everyone toe his line. Dhoni is somewhat in between. true.both are not tactically good but imran motivated his troops, was an inspirational figure whereas dhoni good at man management. imran though never had to face embarrassing whitewashes in tests and neither was as clueless as dhoni..dhoni is a top loi captain but abysmal in test, imran way better than him in tests but not in lois

Imran is not going take defeat after defeat lying down helplessly like Dhoni. Imran will fight fire with fire and can bowl thunderbolts. Dhoni on the other hand is helpless to prevent team defeats because he himself is a very mediocre test batsman. He can never lead by example and cannot motivate his team by leading from the front. Generally, all good players don't make good captains, but only good players make good captains. There are exceptions, but this is a general rule. Dhoni scores very poorly before Imran here. Imran is an ATG whereas Dhoni is an average cricketer in tests, and cannot win matches for his country through his performances.
adi B Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Ganguly v Dhoni http://indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=256898&highlight=Ganguly+Dhoni u very cleverly nitpicked the poll which was done in 2010 b4 the series of whitewashes :cantstop: there was a similar thread opened just a few months back where ganguly had overwhelming majority of the votes here is another http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=304971

putrevus Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Winning a match and drawing a series against Richards' date=' Greenidge, Marshall, Ambrose, Walsh et al is far more difficult than winning a world cup. Normally, teams that visited WI used to be mained and brutallly humiliated, but Pakistan under Imran put up a fight that was unparalled in the 80s.[/quote'] So how would winning a world cup beating twice that team led by a better captain in Clive LLoyd be worth it then??? It was a three match series in which they won one test , I don't think it is such a great achievement at all, if it was six match or five match series then we would have something to talk about. It is like Dhobi taking 2011 drawn series in SA as an achievement which is just nonsense. No Indian team went it in 1983 to play against West Indies and that 1983 WI team might be greatest team of all time much much better WI team than in 1988 and lost 2-0 in five test series where one of the two tests which they lost was very close. Pakistan were lucky not to lose that series as they hung on to their dear life in second test. That 1988 WI was weakest of WI team in 1980s with Ambrose and Walsh just starting other than Malcolm Marshall there was no experience there.
Lord Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 u very cleverly nitpicked the poll which was done in 2010 b4 the series of whitewashes :cantstop: there was a similar thread opened just a few months back where ganguly had overwhelming majority of the votes here is another http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=304971 I just entered Dhoni Ganguly in search bar and this one.couldnt find any other :dontknow: this link doesnt have Dhoni as an option
undisputed chap Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Imran picked players who had the potential to be ATG while dhoni picks whoever joins rhiti, csk mates & his buddy pisshant. Imran played to win while dhoni treats overseas tests like practice games & keeps talking of progress, positives, etc.
Marut Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 The white washes leading to 0-10 since 2011 have ruined Dhoni's legacy as test captain. He is neither equal to Ganguly nor to Imran now. If Dhoni can compensate by winning the series in England and then down under, we can say that he has retained the right to be compared with other good captains of the past. Till then Dhoni is out of the radar. May be Dhoni did not have the right bowlers, but why would he keep selecting TTFs like Ishant for overseas tours? Whether the selection is due to bias or error in judgement, Dhoni's credentials as test captain are seriously questionable. A captain's job is to make the team appear bigger than the sum of its parts, but under Dhoni the team the team appears to be lesser than the sum of its parts. This team was really not so bad to concede 700 to the NZ team, but Dhoni as usual was hopeless and squandered a good chance to win.

We were comprehensively outplayed in all departments.
adi B Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I just entered Dhoni Ganguly in search bar and this one.couldnt find any other :dontknow: this link doesnt have Dhoni as an option i think it was opened by kt 3-4 months ago (Dont remember exactly).it was gang vs dhoni poll where ganguly had more than twice the vote as dhoni iirc. regarding the link i posted, the op doesn't even consider dhoni as a tactician :P

He is the worst bowler in history of test cricket why back him. What about dhoni as a playerdoes he deserve to be in team if he were not the captain.
Rotating Potato Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Dhoni is the worst test captain for india. Good loi captain. Haven't seen imran to know his captaincy. That will be all.
putrevus Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 If Imran was such a great captain he would not have to wait till his last match to win a world cup. Beating England in England in 1980s was no big deal, other than that only notable win for Imran as captain is win again weakest of 1980s WI team. India won in 1986 2-0 .
