Can't comment. Didn't see Imran live. But I consider Dhoni to be a terrible test match captain in conditions that don't offer spin. I don't think I have seen anyone worse than him.

And uses seamers like after thought and often uses fast bowlers in most idiotic way possible. Imran to be fair always wanted fast bowlers and put them in asap. Told them to bowl quick and go for wickets. We all know dhoni is not saying to fast bowlers bowl quick and get wickets, they get no backing

Dhoni gets lot of blame rightly so for being conservative and devoid of sound tactics and team selections. but he is no way an inferior captain to Imran Khan, who if not bailed out by a very fluky Inzi knock would never be on this pedestal to begin with,

No but to be a great captain you have to win world cup as that is one competition where you are pitted against every team. To win overseas india needs fast bowlers and dhobi other than zaheer never had even good ones .where dhoni gets devalued imo is his own performances away from have been putrid.

A good captain makes good use of the resources he has. Theoretically the Zimbabwe captain could be a better captain than the Australian one depending on what he gets out of his team. Dhoni is better than Imran in LOI this isnt even debatable. In Test the key question is how on earth can Dhoni take 20 wickets? Even if his batsmen put up scores of 400 they cant take 20 wickets! They dont have Imran Wasim and co that are fast bowlers period.

So ricky ponting is the worlds best captain ever.Captaincy for me is not only about winning or losing its about team building and leadership.Guys like Border,Clive they built teams .I liked ricky ponting ,dravid,Imran as a captain as they would lead from the front even though they had shortcomings.
